I'm getting really excited now! The Rio Grande Arts & Crafts event is only about 2 weeks away. I was juried in (imagine that!) and I will have a booth in the crafts tent Oct. 12-15. All new look, same excellent products, new gift boxes...whew! I have been busy! Looking forward to seeing some old friends there, so stop by for a visit!

I was inspired by my friend Jane Bradley to create a how-to for her favorite MBB product - White Clay Facial Masque. I got into the possibilities and created this kit which I will be featuring in the New Mexico True Holiday catalog.

Lavender
The annual Lavender in the Village event is scheduled for late July, (details below) and while I’ve been preparing my product line to support my participation in this special day, I’ve been mulling the fascination with – and reasons for – having an event built around this one plant and it’s many contributions such as essential oil, sachets, flavoring, scenting nearly anything, etc.
I call it a special day because of the location in a grassy park with trees, the many vendors chosen with care to support the theme, food & drink, and people in a relaxed mood enjoying a few hours in the lush north valley, all combined to provide a day of escape, of camaraderie, of … lavender.
An entire event dedicated to lavender? It takes a lot of effort, people, time, money, logistics, and risk to successfully accomplish an event – any event, anywhere – and expect people to want to be there. For Wine & Beer & Chocolate/Coffee events, I get it! For Chile & holiday events, I get it! To benefit charitable organizations, absolutely! But one for a bushy, flowering plant? Really?
Really. I mean really. The many benefits of aromatherapeutic lavender, it’s place among the top three-selling scents in the world, and the fact that it can flourish in New Mexico, give it a local-flavor prominence deserving of attention.
Science – and thousands of years of usage and observing – has shown us lavender supports sleep, reduces pain & inflammation, helps with anxiety, depression, and severe burns, helps to eliminate harmful bacteria & viruses, etc., etc. And we are still learning!

Lavender market early Sunday morning starts at 8am in Hartnett Park.

I have been ruminating on trying something new. At home, I have a serious collection of greeting cards & postcards (approx. 5,000 at last count!). I've been collecting cards for as long as I can remember, and having a storefront where I sold them really made it way too easy. For many years, Body Bueno was known as THE place to get "alternative" greeting cards (aka not Hallmark or American Greetings, etc.; however they are both much more interesting these days.) I recently separated the ones I'll keep from the ones I'm willing to give up. I suspect most of them are out of print now. My idea is to package them in groups of 5-6 similar types - for instance b'day cards for men, vintage risque' I-love-you cards , blank fantasy cards, etc. You name a topic, I probably have it! OR maybe 5-6 assorted types, although that would be difficult to choose! I am just not quite sure how to do it, so I thought I'd put it out there for some creative input from all of you. What do you think? Is there even a market for that sort of offering? Any comments - good or questionable (wink) - are welcome! And thanks in advance, Martha Doster
