Dear Viva Family,

If there’s one thing you can count on in rescue, it’s that your heart will be broken. You’ll find youself patching it up by whatever means necessary so that you can keep helping.

To say that the last few years have been difficult would be an understatement. There truly isn’t a word that describes the struggles we have faced in rescue and in life.

Some of you I hope remember Lupin. We rescued him in 2019, from a small rural shelter. He is a double merle, and if you know anything about that, you know that means health problems.

Lupin has bad eyes, a bad heart… and the most amazing personality. He is happy, he is silly, and he loves life every single day.

Lupin is safe and loved in a forever foster home. We knew his medical needs could potentially be costly, so we wanted to be here as backup to ensure he would never be unable to receive the care he needed.

Recent bloodwork has shown that Lupin’s heart is under great strain. He has a murmur and aortic stenosis, and the test that measures the strain on his heart came back off the charts. We have never seen numbers this high, not even in our pup who had dilated cardiomyopathy (rest in peace, Memphis 💔)

We are heart broken and scared, and so is his family. We’re not 100% sure what the next steps are (we are still discussing with our vets) but there’s a solid chance we’ll need to see the cardiologist again. This is costly, but if it means that we can make sure Lupin feels well & is happy, it’s worth it to us. To have a more clear picture of his prognosis for his family, so that they know what to expect is worth it to us.

Due to personal reasons (my son having surgery) we will not be participating in holiday stroll this year. This will be the first year (besides during covid) that we will miss our anniversary celebration and holiday stroll BUT that does not mean we will not celebrate our 17 years at some point this month! Thank you for all your support over the years and we look forward to celebrating 17 years and counting with you real soon !! 🤍
