As we get closer to the Fourth of July holiday, the Albany Police Department is encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly. While it is a time to celebrate, it is also a time when illegal fireworks and unsafe use can lead to injuries, fires, and increased calls for service.
APD will be enforcing illegal fireworks throughout the city to reduce injuries and fires.

Arrest Made in Stanwix Street Shooting Incident
An 18-year-old Albany man has been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on June 11, 2026 on Stanwix Street.
This morning, members from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Kenosha Street in regard to the ongoing shooting investigation. During the search warrant, 18-year-old Xavier Irvin was taken into custody.
On Thursday, June 11, 2026 around 2:40 p.m., officers responded to Stanwix Street near Second Avenue for reports of an individual shot. Upon arrival, officers located a 26-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his arm.
The victim was treated on scene by the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition.
Irvin has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.
He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court this morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

Albany Police are investigating a robbery that occurred last evening on South Pearl Street.
On Friday, June 19, 2026 around 7:00 p.m., an eighteen-year-old female victim and a nineteen-year-old male victim walked into Albany Police Department’s South Station Lobby to report a robbery that occurred in the area of South Pearl Street and South Ferry Street.
Further investigation determined that the victims were approached near their vehicle by two male suspects, who forcibly stole a cell phone belonging to one of the victims. During the incident, the female victim was slashed on the arm with a knife, and the male victim was punched in the face prior to the suspects fleeing the scene.
Detectives have determined that at least one of the suspects was known to one of the victims, and information gathered during the investigation indicates the incident was not random.
Both of the victims were treated at South Station by the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel.
At this time the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Albany Police Detective Division at (518) 462-8039.
