Jumping into reenactments and not sure which crossbow is right? I’ve been there — and I wrote a guide to help. In the post I walk through SCA rules (like the 125 lb draw limit and blunted bolt specs), what materials and draw weights feel authentic yet safe, and how to pick a model that suits your era and role. Prefer hands‑on learning? We also cover workshops where you can build and customize your own SCA‑legal crossbow.
Want historically accurate, fully functional pieces — or the chance to craft one yourself? Check the full guide and workshop info to find the right fit for your next event. What era are you reenacting? Tell me below! ⚔️🪓

Made some Kronboltz this week. Kronboltz, or "Crown Bolts", were used during the medieval period to hunt small game and , one can assume, warfare. The tip of the bolt consists of a solid steel length of round steel ending in a crown shaped blunted end. The effect is a heavy, hard-hitting projectile which delivers a devastating degree of blunt force to its target.
Its use was documented for hunting small game such as rabbit and birds, but given the fact that most fatal wounds during medieval warfare were caused by blunt force trauma rather than cuts or stabs dealt from swords or other bladed weapons, its not hard to imagine the Kronboltz use in warfare of old.
