One of my clients recently asked:

That simple statement warmed my heart.

This client (and friend) recently lost her husband. For almost a year, I have served as her administrative assistant helping her pay her bills, call vendors to dispute charges / change of services or payment methods and filing. She calls it "playing office."

Since her husband's passing, I have helped her navigate the estate processing landscape, as well as referring her to an attorney to discuss a possible wrongful death lawsuit and a landscaper to help with her mulch project. We have also reviewed her monthly credit card statements to identify ways to save money, as well as cancelling unnecessary subscriptions.

I have sold items for her, as well as watching her dog at my home and hers.

While I know before and after photos are a popular marketing tool used in my industry, I only share after photos - and here’s why.

I am keenly aware of the emotional work involved in hiring a professional organizer to help calm the overwhelm that often holds my clients back from living in a peaceful, orderly environment.

I understand the difficulty of pressing through negative emotions in order to get to the goal.

Many of my clients hesitate to schedule the initial consult because of the immense judgement they have for themselves and the judgement they perceive will come with being vulnerable and sharing the state of their affairs - sometimes with a stranger.

The first thing they usually say is, “I’m sorry. My house is a mess. Please don’t judge me!”

To which I reply, “There is no apology needed. I am not judging you. And this does not overwhelm me. It’s ok. I’m here to help you. Show me more.”

Being disorganized comes often coupled with embarrassment, shame, trauma, loss, abuse, overwhelm, insecurity, not feeling good enough or worth it, and sometimes, even demons that bind.

And because of that, I have decided not to share the before pictures that would amplify my clients negative feelings. That would be an abuse of the privilege of their privacy and confidentiality with me in trusting me with their vulnerabilities.

I am so grateful for the privilege of not only helping people organize their spaces, their paperwork and their photos, but most importantly helping them do the hard work to overcome internal deep rooted struggles that prevent them from living their best life.

The heart work is my favorite. ❤️

Yesterday I organized a pantry for a client while she is on vacation and I am so excited for her to return and enjoy her well appointed pantry!

Today, I am in the homestretch of a scanning project that includes the complete contents of a four drawer lateral filing cabinet. This box contains the oversized items. All others were scanned using ScanSnap. 🫣

It has been an honor to archive the Irish heritage of a client’s late husband, who was a passionate genealogist. 🍀

Capturing legacies for future generations has been a passion of mine since my Creative Memories days and this project was fun! Onto their family scrapbooks! 😃🙌

What a privilege to look after my clients’ property, possessions and precious pup while he is away in a sunny place for an extended period of time. ☀️
