WOMEN ENDORSE INACHU FOR SOROTI EAST DIVISION: OVER 50 DEFECT
Women in Soroti East Division in Soroti city have endorsed Sarah Inachu to contest as an Independent Candidate to represent the constituency in the 11th Parliament.
While attending a press conference organized by Inachu at Soroti Hotel on 24th October, 2020, women from different parishes that form up the Division said it is time for their minority voices to have an effective representation in the top most decision making organ of the government.
“We want to vote for women this time round because their views are never compromised. Women understand all the challenges we face in society,” said Mrs Ejuu Rose Margaret, an elder women’s leader in the city.
According to Mrs Ejuu, she has equally watched Inachu growing up the city suburbs, once of the reasons she is convinced that she (Inachu) understands the challenges that need solutions in the area.
In the same note, Stella Adongo, from Central ward, said that she has for a long time felt dissatisfaction of what she termed as effective representation of her ideas by the pre-current leadership.
“We are saying that a woman should represent us this time and the good thing is that Inachu is an experienced leader,” she said.
Inachu first contested for the flag bearer in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party but lost to her counterpart, Jimmy Ekemu.
While addressing the media on her intentions to contest in the forthcoming elections, Inachu disclosed that her idea to run as an Independent candidate does not compromise with her loyalty to the NRM party.
“Leadership does not only end in carrying a flag. I have love for the party and I believe in the ideology of securing the future for Ugandans and I still share opinions with the party members, including Ekemu,” she said.
Inachu told the presser and a few of her task force who were present that the core objectives in her political agenda are unity and effective representation of the views of the electorate.
According to her, if given mandate, she will use the opportunity to transform the lives of her people in various capacities and focus on health issues, education, security, agriculture and land protection in the new city.
“I do offer myself to serve with truth and integrity; honesty and hard work, accountability and transparency," said Inachu.
The Electoral Commission nominated four contestants for Soroti East Division and they include; the incumbent Herbert Edmund Ariko (Independent) Attan Moses Okia (FDC), Jummy Ekemu (NRM) and Inachu Sarah (Independent).
OVER 50 DEFECT
After the briefing, a group of 52 youth across the different wards that form up Soroti East Division denounced their support for the NRM flag bearer in the same position.
Charles Ekotu, the leader of the defectors, told the media that his team decided to move in to garner support for Inachu because they feel she is easy to connect with the young people.
“We have seen that Inachu is an approachable leader and she is also our age mate; meaning that she understands our challenges,” Ekotu said.
