ACESO | Gender Community Action | Mbale, Uganda Formerly known as I Am A Girl, ACESO is a nonprofit in Uganda dedicated to ending the cycle of period poverty and keep girls in school.

Today marks a proud moment for the women of Aceso as they received a refrigerator for mushroom storage , a major step in strengthening their agribusiness journey! With joy and resilience, the women watched as their mushrooms began to sprout, a sign of the harvest to come. They are now eagerly preparing to bring their fresh produce to market starting next week!

This journey has been filled with dedication. Each woman has been saving just 1,000 UGX every week in their savings groups – a small act that has created big change. With AWIU support,the mushroom project has expanded, empowering the women and improving their capacity to grow, store, and sell their produce sustainably.

This project is more than just mushrooms. It represents transformed livelihoods, income for families, and hope for a better tomorrow.

We celebrate every step forward because every sprout tells a story of courage, community, and the power of women working together.

We are thrilled to announce that Aceso Community Gender Action has received a microgrant from the American Women for International Understanding (AWIU)!

This support is not just a financial boost—it is a powerful affirmation of our mission to empower women and girls through mental health care, menstrual health education, and sustainable income-generating activities like mushroom farming.

At Aceso, we remain deeply committed to building a thriving, resilient community where every woman and girl can live with dignity, confidence, and purpose. This grant strengthens our capacity to reach more women, amplify their voices, and drive long-term change in Mbale and beyond.
