Thousands of festival-goers turned out to give a brilliant shine to the opening ceremony of the Burkinabè cultural biennial. A rich ceremony, marked by official speeches, performances by musicians, and a parade of regions highlighting the cultural diversity of Burkina Faso.

Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 has announced plans to recruit and train up to 100,000 reservists by the end of 2026.
The government approved the draft law during a Council of Ministers meeting.
The aim is to build a trained civilian reserve force to support the regular army against ongoing jihadist threats in the Sahel region.
This expands earlier defence efforts under Captain Ibrahim Traoré. The policy is now moving forward, with recruitment set to begin after final legal approval.

PRESIDENT’S VISIT TO BOBO-DIOULASSO:
New Directives Issued to Regional Administrative Authorities to Ensure the Smooth Progress of the RPP.
(Bobo-Dioulasso, April 23, 2026). The day after his arrival in Bobo-Dioulasso for the 2026 SNC, the President of Faso, Head of State, His Excellency Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, received in audience on Thursday morning the heads of administrative districts from the Guiriko region, led by the Governor, Mrs. Mariama KONATÉ/GNANOU.
The delegation reported on the implementation of the directives previously issued by the President of Faso and received new guidance to better support the implementation of the Progressive People’s Revolution (RPP).
These new directives include the enforcement of regulations on household waste management and job creation. Road infrastructure was also discussed, with the population expected to mobilize in support of the Faso Mêbo Agency.

A total of 96 military trainees from Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 and Niger 🇳🇪 have completed specialized commando training at the National Commando Training Center in Pô, marking a step toward strengthening joint defense capacity within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
The graduation ceremony took place on April 23, 2026, at Camp Thomas Sankara, where 60 Burkinabè and 36 Nigerien participants concluded an intensive 8-week program.
The training focused on combat readiness, tactical operations, and defense techniques designed to prepare them as instructors, assistant monitors, and leaders in commando operations.
The event was presided over by Moussa Diallo, Chief of Staff of Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces, alongside Mamane Sani Kiaou, a Brigadier General from Niger’s army.
