The final stop of Ideation week was at PR Naturals Salon to speak with Margueritte Tandekwire, the founder & CEO.

Margueritte has a deep expertise in the beauty and wellness industry. She started her salon back in the 90’s serving a then under-served community of expatriates. She built her career on solid foundations of her faith, integrity, and quality of work that she’s never had to advertise.

Her heart for building flourishing communities is contagious. Our entrepreneurs left inspired to do the same.

She has won multiple awards in the beauty and wellness industry in Uganda. She is also the Executive Director of the Uganda Hair & Beauty Alliance which promotes advocacy for small businesses, standards and regulations in the industry, provides opportunities for up-skilling, and recognition and awards to the best performing businesses.

✅ Ideation Field Trip #2 — at Unifreight GROUP of Companies

In our Day 2 of exploratory trip, we had an in-depth conversation with Jennifer Mwijukye, the founder & CEO of UniFreight.

Her beginnings when building the global logistics empire, is one of those benevolent accidents, excitement, disappointment, and everything in-between. Among many other things she stressed was how vital character is and for an employer, you have a responsibility to your employees beyond contract clauses. She also shared her expertise on the fundamentals of EXIM (export & import) industry to the inspiration of our entrepreneurs.

Jennifer has won several accolades including one as “Most Influential Woman CEO” on both national and continental level.

Unifreight GROUP of Companies is one of the oldest and most reputable clearing and logistics firms in Uganda. It was 1 of 3 companies in Uganda that were awarded the prestigious URA Authorised Economic Operator accreditation by URA and the WCO. An exciting, "expedition-like" module has begun. We had an engaging, inspiring, and insightful chat with CEO & Founder, Brenda Sekabembe.

Our entrepreneurs were impressed by her story of humble and long beginnings. She is now enjoying the fruits of her resilience and persistence. Fun fact: 💡 she began with UGX25,000 ($7) in capital.

Bake 4 Me Ltd has been in existence since 2004. They are passionate about anything concerning cakes. They now have five (5) branches around major routes in Kampala. They can create a mind blowing centre piece from any color theme and yet keep our prices pocket friendly.

[COLLABORATION]

In our spirit of collaboration, we met Robbie Kakonge from UICT and Brenda Nakazibwe from STI-OP today at our offices to discuss ways to better serve the INNOVATORS who have just recently gone through a very rigorous selection process - from 160 National Innovators to 10 Innovators who are going to be supported through the @Innovation Hub at MICT.

Kenyan fintech Zanifu nabs $1M to bridge MSME financing gap, eyes Ghana, Uganda expansion – TechCrunch

East Africa Startup Updates!

Zanifu provides short-term stock-financing of up to $2,000 to MSMEs in Kenya and is eyeing an additional 15,000 FMCG retailers in the next one year.

“We serve FMCG retailers, especially the ones that are too small to access traditional bank finance for their businesses. The only option these MSMEs have has been digital consumer loans, which are not always suitable for them. We are filling a critical gap in providing stock financing, which enables small businesses to grow their turnovers by more than 40%,” said Zanifu co-founder and chief operating officer, Steve Biko.
