Wildlife Ranger Challenge – Uganda
On the 3rd of October Uganda joined over 100 other ranger teams across Africa to partake in the grueling Wildlife Ranger Challenge. The event took place in the incredible Murchison Falls National to raise funds and support for the incredibly important work rangers do to protect wildlife, habitats, and local communities.
The event was organised with the help of Marasa Africa, the Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF) and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Guests joined the teams in Paraa lodge, cheered them on along the course, enjoyed an incredible breakfast on the Delta, and in the evening Paraa Lodge and Chief Warden hosted a wonderful BBQ with the supporters, runners, rangers and organisers.
Whilst the Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park teams and the “Dream Team” set off on their 21km run with 22kgs on their backs through the magnificent elephant herds and thousands of antelopes, Marasa Africa’s Signature Event swung into action.
An extremely excited VIP Group of guests armed with Uganda coffee set off on a game drive. Game viewing was outstanding, lions, lots of elephants, buffaloes, and hundreds of giraffes – simply incredible.
The end destination was the finish line where the guests would not only enjoy seeing the rangers end their challenge but doing it in style with a spectacular bush breakfast that set up by Paraa Safari Lodges events team.
At breakfast, the guests watched under a dark sky the teams coming into the end of their ranger challenge, upon their arrival the heavens opened in dramatic fashion, the rain came, and winds whipped up! Apparently, the ranger rather enjoyed running in it, cooling them down and splashing in the puddles!
The day had not ended, and the VIP guests wanted to celebrate with the UWA Game Rangers. Marasa Africa generously put on a safari boat to take the ranger teams, guests, and organisers on an afternoon boat cruise up the River Nile to the mighty Murchison Falls. Despite the considerable problems, the record water levels are causing people along the Nile, and in the park, the falls are thunderous and utterly spectacular!
The evening Barbeque Dinner and an array of puddings rounded of a fun day full of new friendships, laughter.
