Last week marked an important milestone for our team in Kampala. We attended a training organized by following our selection as one of the book recipients for this year.

We were honored to receive 18 boxes of books donated by Kiwanis Club in the United States. These books will play a great role in supporting children’s learning and literacy development in the communities where we work.

We are excited that soon we shall establish a library where children will be able to access books, improve their literacy skills and develop a lasting love for learning.

In 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟭𝟭 of the 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, we conducted our 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 in a different and more interactive way.

Instead of giving written questions on paper, we focused on assessing the parents’ 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀. The instructor called learners one by one and asked them questions based on what they covered during the month.

We are happy to see the confidence and progress parents continue to demonstrate in speaking English. These assessments help us understand how far learners are progressing toward the objective of the project; empowering parents with English language skills to better 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 and use English for their 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 within the settlement and beyond.

As we approach the final week of the first cohort, we are encouraged by the transformation and learning journey of the parents.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟵 under the 𝗨𝗷𝘂𝘇𝗶 𝗸𝘄𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗮 (𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀) project at INNOVATION SCHOOL.

Every week, we continue to see growth, confidence, and determination among the parents participating in the hairdressing training, especially 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 who are committed to learning practical skills that can help them support their families.

Through regular hands-on practice, participants are improving their techniques and becoming more comfortable applying the skills they have learned so far. It is encouraging to witness the progress being made as the cohort moves closer to completion.

We believe these practical skills will create opportunities for parents to 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀.

At AFSC, we remain committed to our 𝘁𝘄𝗼-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵, because empowering parents also means creating better opportunities for children and families.💪

This week, we held our 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟭𝟬 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 with the instructor of the 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁.

At 𝗔𝗙𝗦𝗖, we believe in 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. These weekly reflections help us review progress, identify challenges and strengthen the implementation of the project each week.

With only 𝟮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 before the completion of the first cohort, we are encouraged by the progress parents continue to make in learning English.

We are now in 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟭𝟬 of the 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, with only 𝟮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 before the completion of the first cohort.

We are truly happy and encouraged by the 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 made so far. Week after week, we continue to witness parents becoming more confident in speaking English, participating actively in class, and supporting one another throughout the learning journey.

What started as a new experience for many parents is gradually becoming a source of 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

We are excited to see the impact this project is creating; helping parents improve communication with teachers, support their children’s learning at home and use English more confidently in their daily lives.

As we approach the final weeks of this cohort, we remain committed to our 𝘁𝘄𝗼-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵, empowering both parents and children together.

Another week of learning, practice, and growth at INNOVATION SCHOOL as parents continue building their practical hairdressing skills under our 𝗨𝗷𝘂𝘇𝗶 𝗸𝘄𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗮 project.

As we complete 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟴, it is encouraging to see the increasing confidence, creativity and commitment among the participants, especially 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 who are determined to build a better future for their families through practical skills.

Through continuous hands-on practice, parents are improving their techniques and becoming more comfortable working on mannequins and among themselves. Step by step, they are developing skills that can help them create opportunities for 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴.

We remain proud to continue implementing our 𝘁𝘄𝗼-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 because when parents are empowered, children and families benefit too. 💪

Last week, parents participated in a 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 to demonstrate the skills they have learned so far. It is inspiring to see participants confidently practicing hairdressing on mannequins, among themselves and even on their children.

In just 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀, we are already witnessing remarkable progress, commitment and growing confidence among these parents, especially 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 who continue showing determination despite the challenges they face.

We are excited about the remaining weeks of this cohort and hopeful that these practical skills will help participants create opportunities to 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀. 💪

We wrapped up 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟴 of the 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 with two key activities focused on 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

We conducted a 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 to evaluate what parents have learned during the month of April. This helps us track progress and understand how much knowledge and confidence they are gaining in English.

In addition, we held a 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 with the parents to listen to their concerns, gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement. Their voices continue to guide how we strengthen the project.

As we move into 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟵, we officially begin the 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 of this first cohort. 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟭𝟮 will mark the final week, followed by the 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of the first cohort and the enrollment of a new group of parents.

We are proud of the progress so far and remain committed to delivering meaningful impact through our 𝘁𝘄𝗼-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵.
