Persuasive Selling Format (PSF) credited to P&G Company is probably one of the bestselling technique in the world. It is applicable to both FMCGs and high value goods and services. It is a five-step persuasive selling approach that is powerful, structured, simple, easy, professional and delivers results.

The steps are:- 1. Summarize the situation. 2. State the idea. 3. Explain how it works 4. Reinforce key benefits. 5. Close (suggest easy next steps)

Does it really work? When we introduced it to our retail unit of our business it was evident that there was growth in sales and a better retail execution and customer engagement. One of our client dealing in high end services was amazed with the results with in a period of about four months from the time of our training. There was evidence of better customer conversion rate.

In the past months, we have integrated the PSF in all our sales training programs. This is the right time to get in touch with our Sales Trainer / Coach for more details about our sales programs and how you can make the Persuasive Selling Format part of the daily lives of your sales teams. The results are amazing. Starting from 20th December 2021 to 20th February 2022 we shall be running half day FREE sales training sessions at the client’s premises in and around Kampala. BUSINESS LESSONS FROM 2016 UGANDA ELECTIONS.
By Alex Arinaitwe
From the just concluded presidential, parliamentary and local leaders’ elections in Uganda, there are a lot of business lessons that can be learnt from this exercise. These lessons can be applied in business in general and more especially in managing brands.
1. Success of major brands does not guarantee success of sub-brands. There are many areas where the presidential candidates worn with good numbers while their respective party flag bearers, incumbents and even ministers were defeated. Having a successful major brand does not guarantee success of new or sub brands.
2. Never take your consumers for granted. Surprises can happen. So many members of parliament who have been in parliament for many years were defeated. Some of whom had and slide victories in the previous elections.
3. Older brands have an advantage over new ones. For example if a brand has been in existence for say decades, it has an advantage in that consumers have tried, tested and trusted it and may not quickly switch to another brand. However this works in reverse as well. There are consumers who may feel simply tired of the old brand and feel they need to switch with no specific reasons and more so if the brand is not recreated to look new.
4. Always make your brands appear new. The same old parties and contestants that have participated in the previous elections come up with new slogans, songs and promises. Why? To appear new and fresh in the minds of the voters.
5. Always connect with your customers: The messages of the candidates were constantly changing with the nature of the audiences. The messages and campaign promises had to be in line with voters’ interests of a particular area. Always segment your customers based on their needs and expectations.
6. Brands are built overtime. Most of the new faces in the parliament have contested twice or thrice before and failed. It takes time to build a brand. Never give up.
7. Big brands can collapse. Some ministers and “NRM historicals” did not make it to the primaries and even the final elections when they chose to stand as independents.
8. Investing in a brand does not guarantee its success. The amount of investment put in the campaign was not in proportion to the votes obtained. Therefore invest in the brands wisely and strategically.
9. Open competition leads to better customer service. The government facilities like health centers and schools that were shown to be in a bad state during campaigns have already got a face lift or plans to do so. When the competition is visible, every company wants to win the hearts and the minds of the customers by improving the level of service.
10. Differentiate your company from competition. A company should use a colour, logo and a symbol that can differentiate it from competition. In case of the color it should be totally different from the competitors. For example yellow and blue are totally different and can never be confused. Look at the symbols like the “V” sign and the thumb. Both are made using fingers but are totally different.
11. Own a word in the minds of the customers. In business terms, this is called a slogan or a tagline. A good tagline should be simple, meaningful, relevant and short. Think about these slogans “go forward”, “steady progress”, “one people one Uganda”. What is your company slogan? Does it meet the above criteria?
