Dear students.
RE. GUILD PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
I take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year and pray that the Almighty continues to bless you especially in these times of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
It is unfortunate that due to several events that may have amounted to malpractice, the above elections were cancelled. Among the issues that were raised was that of the voters' register. We would like to complete the process of electing the Guild before examinations.
I would therefore wish to urge all those who are not registered to do so by Thursday, January 6.Thereafter, we should be able to confirm the dates when the elections will be held. Because of this, exams will be put off for a few days to enable us to complete the elections.
Yours sincerely,

Prof. Waswa Balunywa, PhD.
Principal.

When we opened doors for the first 14 students in January 1922, fees was 60 shillings, a British currency of the time, for day scholars. This is equivalent to about 84 pounds in today’s British currency and about 400,000 Uganda shilling. #MakerereAt100

FROM THE MUBS ELECTORAL COMMISSION

To: The Students Fraternity.

Press Release 2

Reference is made to the Press release dated 22, December 2021.Also refer to the Dean of students letter dated 23 December,2021.

In either communications, it's noted that the Electoral Commission abruptly stopped the election that was intended to end at 4:00pm,EAT. The exercise was stopped at around 3:46pm when security fired tear gas to disperse the crowd around the polling station. In addition to the many unavoidable circumstances, the commission decided to cancel the elections

The commission will organize fresh elections at a date that will be communicated to you.

As we prepare for fresh elections, let's take note of the following:

1. Candidates who are spreading wrong propaganda that they were not in the Register must stop this w.e.f now. The commission can confirm that all candidates were atleast in the register

Please note that whoever continues advancing baseless propaganda risks disciplinary action which may include disqualification.

2. The commission urges all candidates to refrain from using a language that may lead to 'character assassination' of the other.
The use violence shall not be tolerated.

3. Article 74(1) requires that for one to be a voter, they must be Students of the school.
It is thus implied that one must be registered.
You are hereby cautioned to take last semesters registration serious as this is the only way the school can know that you are still their students.
Even outside the elections, you still need to be registered.

4.Whereas it's true that registers will be displayed prior to elections, we must register for the previous semester if we must appear on the list of registered Students.

Let's continue being calm. The Electoral Commission is committed to delivering a credible election.
