This is the link to the fundraising page for CCCU. Please support us if you can by donating and sharing among your friends.
Planet BB project has been supporting Grace at CCCU for 11 years and has sent about £16000 over this time. We in the Boys' Brigade have affectionately know CCCU as 'Grace's orphanage', but of course it has grown and adapted over the years. Blessings. Dave.
Dear friends,

CCCU needs a further £40 (UK pounds), or approx. 200,000 Ugandan shillings, in order to buy food for the vulnerable families whom it supports. If you'd like to make a contribution, please contact me via [email protected], and I will send you details of the Planet BB account (UK). Alternatively, you can make contributions to CCCU's account with Barclays Bank in Uganda.

Any contributions received are strongly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Michael Southall
Volunteer Co-ordinator for CCCU in the UK
I am Yuta from Japan.

This week I talk about "Swamp".
Do you know swamp?
Swamp has much water and is muddy land.
Most communities where we usually go are located there.
Although government prohibits people from living there because government owns these places, people surely live there.
One of reasons is that it is easy to get water.
However there are some problems there.
Muddy land makes houses and loads deep down, like liquefaction, so they are getting sloping.
Moreover if the government's policy becomes strict on them it is possible for people living there to lose their lands and houses.

Thank you.

Grace shelter foundation

Good news, our new name as Grace Shelter Foundation formerly Christian Children Centre Uganda has received a licence from the government to operate as a community based organisation. The reason why we changed the name, we realised we should make our centre open to accommodate the high growth rate of child neglect cases rising in our communities.

Due to various challenges brought about by the covid 19 pandemic, high cases of domestic violence and child abuse have been recorded and there has not been any place where the community run to in case of emergency situations in terms of shelter, emergency food, or even re-unite families and providing basis healthy cares services.

We believe that every child deserves to have a loving home, a family and a caretaker that cater to the child's physical, emotional well-being and development.

Realising the need for a transitional home with rehoming services with the best interest of the child, this organisation is determined to providing emergency protective care resettlement opportunities for vulnerable children within the community.

This organisation shall not discriminate on grounds of one's race, color, language, religion, sex and/or age, considering that all human beings are created in the image of God.

was not an easy day yesterday holding a meeting with a police regional coordinator, answering 1000 questions, am glad I managed to convince him, that we are in a position to follow covid operation procedures by guidelines of the ministry of health.

We have been approved to reopen the office with less staff and if holding a gathering with not more than 10 people. We agreed to follow the guidance until the lockdown will end.

Thanks, Lord! Now I can have few members help me up with work and visiting families for counselling.

Help for Grace & CCCU during Covid-19 and beyond, organized by David Chant

Attention all friends of CCCU. We thank you for your continued support and prayers. We are deeply appreciative of all the assistance you’ve provided thus far. We owe you a big debt of gratitude and send you much love.

Just an update on our current state of affairs. We are now two weeks under total lockdown in Uganda and the number of people dying of Covid 19 has sadly increased. The situation has, unfortunately, become rather dire. We are in a state of emergency. A number of adults are no longer able to provide food for their families as they are not working. And, unfortunately, the government is not able to handle the volume of requests for this support. It’s a very sad situation.

We understand things have been difficult everywhere and certainly where you are. We hope the situation has improved over there. In any case, any immediate financial assistance you might be able to provide at this time would be highly appreciated. I am available for any and all inquiries in regards to specifically how all funds contributed will be allocated.

Thank you, again, for your continued support. You have no idea how much it’s appreciated.

Ugandan hospitals under pressure amid COVID-19 pandemic second wave | Africanews

It is a very difficult situation in Uganda, more than thousands cases are registered for covid, per village.

The worst matter is we don't have enough standard hospitals, few hospitals with ventilators, a treatment in intensive care is costing over 700,000Ugandan shillings which is $140 every day. 70% percent population can't afford this in Uganda.

This is a very high terrible situation.
Please continue to pray for us.

Please pray for Uganda.

Rose's mother and all her children sell leaf veggies, mostly this is a super early morning Job from 6:00am to midday, honestly it's a long hours job for the kids to move up and down on streets walking almost 5 kilometers every day selling veggies. It's really a tiresome job. It's the only source of income for their family,.

We would like to help Roses family with food support and also to enroll some of her teenage sister's to our youth skilling project to be able to learn other skills which can sustain and support their family.

If u have got any small donation for Rose's family, please inbox me.

God bless you.

I have found out that the child's name is Rose. She is housed with many other children (estimate of 11) who are being sent out on the streets of Uganda to sell their only resources, to help them financially. She is about 9-10 years old.

Please Join me we pray for this Child as we try to find out where she comes from and how best we can help her. I will keep u updated.

Blessings.

May God richly bless you.

08/09/2020

Dear my friends and supporters.

We hope that you and your families are safe and healthy during these challenging times. While Ugandan schools remain fully closed, we wanted to give you an update on how we are supporting the children during this crisis

The Ugandan government has lifted restrictions a little so private transport is being allowed again, although masks are compulsory everywhere outside of the house and a curfew is still in place from 7pm to 6:30am. Our staff are carrying out COVID-19 home visits to all children that we support with the aim of reassuring them that we are still here during these difficult times and to offer additional support and guidance where needed. A big thank you to all our teachers and social workers for their work supporting this new initiative whilst schools remain closed.

It is very clear that the families of our children are really suffering. Many parents have not been able to work during the lockdown period and therefore have struggled to make ends meet, even more so than usual. In the last few weeks, we have witnessed some of our kids on the street, either begging or trying to sell whatever food scraps they can find to make what little money they can.

With this in mind, we began a food distribution program that has covered 32 families -The food given out was a mixture of beans, posho (maize flour porridge), rice, cooking oil, salt and soap - enough for at least 3-4 weeks per family. In order to ensure safety and security, we only distributed to small numbers from our office each time, rather than in the community itself. All parents and children washed their hands with soap upon entry and the children sat socially distant from each other whilst waiting for the distribution. All our staff wear masks when visiting the community as well as washing hands/sanitising regularly.

In addition to the food distribution, as schools remain closed, we have been able to distribute weekly home learning packs to those students in P3, P4, P5, P6 and P7. This will be expanded to secondary aged students starting from next week and will continue weekly whilst we wait for clarity from the President and Ministry of Education as to the plan for schools reopening.

We will continue to keep you updated as things progress and the situation changes in Uganda.

Thank you for taking the time to care about those struggling on the other side of the world - we value your continued support and generosity now more than ever.

Make a donation to keep this great work moving.

General information

'' (CCCU) " is made up of volunteers who assist families/children living in poverty, giving them new hope for the future. our goal is to break the cycle of poverty in families in the communities. The greatest challenges for families living in poverty are food, housing, school fees, health issues, and access to clean water. To help with such needs, '' (CCCU) " undertakes activities such as providing medical care, counseling and guidance, education support as well as equipping children and single mothers with life skills, e.g. art crafts and many others. These involve material, psycho-social, and spiritual support; and by networking and giving information on existing available services for HIV positive individuals (HIV voluntary testing, Anti Retro Viral drugs, etc.) '' (CCCU)" “Volunteers make home visits; distribute food, used clothing, and assist with medical and mental care, school expenses for children. even raising funds for income generating projects to support families living in poverty . This project also is developing to facilitates small loans with no interest, allowing families possibilities that they would not otherwise have. Making jewellery out of recycled paper has become the most important income-generating project for ''(CCCU)" and the families are involved. ''(CCCU) " -helps over 230 children with their Families in Uganda and about 15 women have been trained in making beads out of recycled paper to make jewellery, which is sent to markets around the world. This has given the women self-esteem, put a smile on their faces, and alleviated the struggles with poverty. The profits are used for various charitable activities. The Need................................................ In Uganda over 14 million of the country's 27 million people are below the age of 15; approximately 6.9 million adults are illiterate; about one-quarter of the population is unable to secure adequate food for all or part of the year; and poverty in the household and the continuing burden of HIV/AIDS is having an increasingly negative impact. *The number of children orphaned continues to increase; 13.1% of children under the age of 18 are considered orphans. **Uganda has the highest proportion of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS worldwide (estimated to number of 2.3 million); More than half of Uganda's population is under the age of 14, but families often lack the disposable income necessary to send their children to school. Even when children are fortunate enough to go to school initially, they often drop out when caregivers fail to meet other school obligations and requirements. Close to 18% of school-aged children are not enrolled in school and the dropout rate averages 66%. *As a consequence the literacy rate is decreasing and growing numbers of children are struggling to find food and shelter. In addition, vocational training opportunities are required to make it possible for more young people to find employment. The negative effects of a high population of orphans and poorly educated or illiterate children are many: girls resort to commercial s*x and early marriages which increase their vulnerability to AIDS and unwanted pregnancy, while boys go onto the streets and too often resort to criminal acts like theft, and adopt behaviors that include glue sniffing, smoking, and drug use. The need to change behavior and restore hope to marginalized children is immense.
