Australia says Katy Perry's new album "Prism" is a biohazard

With seeds embedded into the packaging, Australian authorities are taking a cautious approach to Katy Perry's new album and is quarantining international shipments of the albums to make sure that the seeds contained within do not present a problem for potential invasive species.

It's a great idea on the surface. Package your product in paper that can be planted and flowers will sprout in the spring. It's sweet and endearing. And who wouldn't love the idea of flowers growing from trash?

Idris Elba was reportedly rushed to the hospital after suffering an asthma attack the night before he was scheduled to appear at the premiere of his new movie, ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.’

Idris Elba's appearance at the Sunday premiere of his Nelson Mandela biopic came close to being sidelined by a health scare.

The actor reportedly suffered an asthma attack the night before he was scheduled to appear in Johannesburg for the "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" red carpet.

Elba, 41, apparently fell ill on the plane before it left the UK, was rushed to the hospital and missed a press conference for his film the following morning.

The "Luther" actor plays South African freedom fighter Mandela, 95, in the movie about his life and presidency, based on Mandela's best-selling autobiography.

Elba (left) made it to the premiere on Sunday and appeared in good health as he posed alongside Mandela’s wife Graca Machel (right).

British actor and hunk Idris Elba is now officially dating hair and make-up artist Naiyana Garth.

The 41-year-old actor was pictured getting cosy with Naiyana at this week's Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year awards at Claridge's Hotel in London. And despite the pair only just going public, a source close to the star said the couple have actually been together for several months.

Today is "Internet Day." It was on this day, October 29, 1969, when the first ARPANET link was established in California between the University of California at Los Angeles and Stanford.

By December 5, two more universities had been connected -- University of Utah and the University of California, Santa Barbara.

This four-node network became the core of today's Internet.

Here's the Room at UCLA Where the Internet Was Born

The good: The new Beats Studio headphones are lighter, sturdier, and better-sounding than the original Studio headphones. They offer a comfortable fit and active noise cancellation, which works well but not great. The noise cancellation is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery that offers up to 20 hours of battery life. The headphones fold up to fit in a nice carrying case (included).

The bad: Very faint hiss from noise cancellation; if the internal battery dies, the headphones don't work; fairly pricey at $300.

The bottom line: They may not be a bargain at $300, but the new Beats Studio headphones are lighter and better-built, and sound significantly better than the original Beats Studio model.

Get them at $299.95

Jay-Z calls Samsung's troubled 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' App experience 'not cool'

Following the launch of his highly anticipated album Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay Z has spoken about his partnership with Samsung and the issues some users had when trying to download the new release. In an interview on New York radio station Power 105.1, the rapper branded the experience "not cool" and "disheartening" after fans were unable to access the album right away.

Jay Z was careful not to implicate Samsung, instead focusing on the demand for the album itself. "It was 20 million hits for the app and it broke," he said. As part of its exclusive deal with Jay Z, Samsung gave away 1 million free copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail to Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note II owners on July 4th (almost a week ahead of the public release), as long as they downloaded the promotional app. 26/06/2013

Those of you who use TweetDeck on the Web to access your Twitter account will find a new design the next time you launch the page.

The top bar has been moved to the left side of the screen where it offers virtually all of the commands you'd use on a regular basis. The New Tweet button appears at the top of the bar with an icon for Search directly underneath. Icons for all of your current columns then appear under Search so you can easily navigate from one to another, especially if all of your columns don't fit on the screen at one time.

Infragram: Infrared camera on the cheap

You can already buy an infrared camera, but only if you have hundreds of dollars to sink into the purchase. An inexpensive infrared-modified camera, originally developed by Public Lab to monitor damage to wetlands after the BP oil spill, is now available through Kickstarter.

The Infragram project has already handily topped its $30,000 goal and gives you several different options for obtaining a cheap infrared camera. You can do it yourself and modify your own camera for $10, buy a pre-modified bare-bones We**am for $35, or buy a ready-to-use point-and-shoot camera for $95.

This prototype just gives an idea of the what a modified point-and-shoot could look like.

Motorola has settled a patent-infringement lawsuit with TiVo over digital-video recording technology ahead of a patent trial scheduled to begin next week.

TiVo filed a patent-infringement claim against Motorola last October, saying that the Google-owned company's set-top boxes infringed on its patents related to DVR functionality. TiVo argued that were the court to rule in its favor, the "damages claim is likely to run into the billions of dollars."

The settlement, which was first reported by Bloomberg, was confirmed by a Motorola spokesperson, who declined to offer details of the settlement.

"We're pleased that all parties involved have reached an agreement to resolve pending litigation," Motorola said in a statement.

[03/19/13]   Google testifies before House of Representatives, calls for updated email privacy laws

Google's legal director of law enforcement and information security, Richard Salgado, is set to testify before the US House of Representatives this morning about the need for new email privacy legislation. In his written testimony, Salgado notes that the 1986 ECPA (Electronic Communications Privacy Act) doesn't reflect the "ways in which people use the internet in 2013," noting how cloud computing has increased the amount of user information shared and stored online. Google is calling for ECPA to be updated to require that law enforcement obtain a search warrant for accessing users' emails and information stored online. Salgado's testimony also touches on Mountain View's own efforts to improve transparency when it comes to user privacy, including publishing reports about government requests.
