De Nederlandse Ambassade Kampala
It was a wonderful day in Mukono District, where working together as a team and getting to know each other better stood central. Divided in five different teams, we were competing all day in different challenges. Our team got the chance to relax, talk, laugh, eat and dance, which was the perfect setting for a successful team outing and team bonding!
Adventure tourism is the fastest growing tourism niche worldwide. It is among the most sustainable forms of tourism and creates economic opportunities to local communities and companies. Also Eastern Uganda is becoming more and more popular as an adventure tourism destination. It provides skills development and jobs to young Ugandans.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports this project through Netherlands Enterprise Agency's impact cluster funding.
During the visit the team met with several stakeholders and beneficiaries of the project, including Home of Friends Guesthouse, Run Kapchorwa and Kara-Tunga, Karamoja Tours. The Adventure Tourism Uganda impact cluster is a consortium of companies that jointly aims to further develop adventure tourism through product development, capacity-building and marketing, with strong involvement of the local population.
The team met the graduates of a coffee guides training, visited the Run Kapchorwa initiative and flagged of the Tour of Karamoja. The organizer of the tour, Kara-Tunga Arts & Tours, fosters peace, prosperity, conservation, and creates jobs in the Karamoja region.
The overall objective of the implemented projects is to enhance the self-reliance of refugees and their host communities through interventions on protection, education, skilling, livelihood activities, but also physical and mental health support. We aim to enhance the integration of refugees and their ability to participate in Ugandaโs economy.
The visit started with RLP in Maaji refugee settlement in Adjumani, where we interacted with beneficiaries of the โaddressing harmsโ (physical and MHPSS), English for Adults, and access to justice programs. We also visited Adjumani Hospital where RLP supports refugees to receive medical attention for war related injuries, the tree growing project at Adjumani Secondary school, and paid a courtesy call to the district leadership.
Thereafter we continued to Arua City and Rhino Camp refugee settlement , where we visited several projects of our Prospects partners, including child protection case management, a high school where an ICT lab is being rehabilitated, a primary school where Teaching at the Right Level is implemented, young peacebuilders that promote peaceful co-existence in their communities, the UPSHIFT programme working with out-of-school adolescents, a job centre offering employment services, a welding site where several apprentices have been placed for work-based learning. Additionally, the hotel that hosted us also received apprentices undergoing work-based learning in the hotel sector. Lastly, we also interacted with several Government officials who are supporting the implementation of these programs.
We want to thank all our partners for the interesting visit, and we look forward to continued cooperation!

The Netherlands Embassy, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) together with the Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development facilitated a roundtable discussion today with several stakeholders to discuss how the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure can be developed in Uganda.
The roundtable is part of a broader ongoing feasibility study on energy and electric mobility in the country.
As noted by MEMD Permanent Secretary, Irene
Bateebe, "the availability of electric vehicles and the necessary charging infrastructure have to move in tandem. The low uptake of electric vehicles can, among other reasons, be attributed to the lack of public electric vehicle charging infrastructure and vice versa, making this a chicken and egg dilemma.โ

He does so in collaboration with Ebee.africa and InfoNile. The campaign is committed to promoting environmental awareness in Uganda and to remind the public of the Sustainable Development Goal 11 to turn our cities into safe, resilient, and sustainable urban spaces.
We wish Hakim a safe and successful ride!

Hello, my name is Fred van Hese. For 23 years, I have been working for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs all over the world. Since 2011, I have done so as controller for development cooperation. Many people have the impression that a controller is only about the numbers, but it is much more than that. As controller I for example also have an important advisory role, thinking about feasibility and sustainability of results and taking into account risks of a project. This diversity is what makes it interesting.
Striking a balance between the goals, knowledge and expertise of all stakeholders involved can be a challenge โ it is about combining supply and demand. We always look at the sustainability of a project for all parties. In this way we work result-oriented. A tip for FB-followers: have a look at the results we achieved in the past year at: https://www.nlontwikkelingssamenwerking.nl/en/.

The deadline is the 3rd of September and you can find the framework in both in Dutch and English: https://shorturl.at/yBELQ (NL) and https://shorturl.at/jBKLS (ENG)

ADVANCE NOTICE: The Dutch MFA โ Directorate of Stabilization and Humanitarian aid โ will be publishing a subsidy framework for migration and displacement in July 2023. Are you working for an NGO, on migration and focus on promoting localization? This might be something to look out for!

Today marks the first ever !
Letโs beat the waste pollution together and shift towards a circular economy.
On this day we want to highlight a great example of reducing waste in Uganda: Eco Brixs.
Eco Brixs is a recycling company based in Masaka, tackling plastic waste management and creating job opportunities to the community.
Giving a second chance to waste turns it into a treasure. By creating income opportunities for local communities through their recycling program and providing farmers with efficient and durable structures, they are contributing to poverty reduction and promoting sustainable agriculture.
An example we like is the partnership of Eco Brix with SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and Holland Greentech. On the Harvest Money Expo last February, they showcased their 100% recycled plastic beams in their innovative ShadeNet structures for nurseries. These structures demonstrate the versatility and strength of eco-friendly building materials in the agriculture sector.

Today, Ambassaor Karin Boven and colleagues from the Embassy visited the ACTUATE programme. This programme increases access and utilization of sexual and reproductive health commodities and services through private channels, all over Uganda.
By making high quality and affordable sexual and reproductive health (SRH) products and services more easily accessible and by educating and empowering women about these options, Uganda women and girls will have improved SRH outcomes, improved health indicators and improved livelihoods.
In its first year, the ACTUATE programme was impressively able to avert 60,418 unplanned pregnancies, 1,425 Maternal Deaths and 267,896 unsafe abortions.
During the visit the Ambassador and team were able to follow the journey of commodities from the warehouse (United Health Distributors/Medical Access Uganda) to the clinic and the pharmacy. Thanks, DKT for the successful partnership and for organizing an interesting and inspiring visit.
