Science Foundation for Livelihoods and Development (SCIFODE) is Uganda’s pioneer not-for-profit c We produce Uganda’s premier S&T Magazine—The Science Times.
SCIFODE is registered in as a not-for-profit organisation Uganda and has been in operation since 2006. We focus on demystification of science through communication and public engagement in the most simplified ways as possible to shape policy and decision-making. We also facilitate and take part in scientific research and development to deliver it from the labs to the market place. We have been at
the centre of science communication and demystification of biotechnology in Uganda since the year 2007 and are associated with helping the public understand and appreciate the efforts of all biotechnology research teams and projects in Uganda that have cooperated with our efforts. SCIFODE maintains a close linkage with research organisations, Universities and the media houses and journalists. It also maintains close linkage and networks with the Parliament of Uganda. It has organised many workshops, public policy dialogues, open fora and radio/TV programmes on biotechnology and biosafety and other science and technology disciplines. It advocates for Government recognition of science as a sector with its own Ministry and has also organised legislators and policy makers’ visits to research centres, international science centres, and research field experiments in Uganda, South Africa, India, Malaysia, U.S.A and other Countries. We produce video documentaries on various aspects of science and technology and has archived all major science and technology developments in Uganda and some aspects of the same in other Eastern African Countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan and Ethiopia). We also organise training programmes and short courses in collaboration with Universities and research institutes. These and other areas of interest and/or operation at SCIFODE are shown in the Core Areas of operation section of this brief.
