if you thought it was only in Uganda where the system is collapsing, we're not the only interns having a tough time, being tossed about...
what happened to the nobility of the medical profession?

“There’s a strange culture in medicine. People are less friendly to each other than I imagined. I got an MD and a PhD in Neuroscience. I’m finishing my residency right now. I guess I thought that everyone would be compassionate, and would help each other, and would be nice to each other. And don’t get me wrong—I work with a lot of compassionate people. But the stress just erodes people. There’s a lot of tension and anger. We’re taught that 80 hours per week is normal and shouldn’t be questioned. But at the same time, a huge amount of work that medical interns do is administrative. It could be outsourced without affecting the quality of education or care. And the culture does real harm. I’ve had two friends commit su***de. One of them was studying anesthesiology at Yale and overdosed in a parking lot. The other jumped off the dorm building at NYU. There’s got to be a better way. I don’t know, maybe I’m just saying this because I’m stressed. I'm heading to the ER now. I’m almost at the end of my residency. I can see the end of the tunnel. But the tunnel is very damaging.”

[09/25/17]   This recently concluded weekend has seen us achieve victories that we never thought we would attain. I'd like to send a big shout out to all the members of MUMSA especially those who participated in the inter-university national annual FUMSA quiz on the days of 23-24 Sept, 2017. You guys did us proud.

A big thank you to the team of geniuses that cmprised of Komata 5yr, Isaac Ddamulira 4yr, Bukenya Meddy 4yr, Mayindi Frank (team leader) 4yr & Ssetabi Leoson 2yr. They showed alot of resilience while at St. Augustine International University where this year's quiz took place. They are a real force to reckon with.

I cannot forget to thank other members of medical school who participated in the miniquiz that propelled us to this victory. the names of Robinah Nakawunde 4yr, David Mpaju 3yr & Mirembe Joy 2yr will not go unmentioned. The endeavor byMUMSA cabinet to organize the mini quiz as well as the support shown by the members while at St. Augustine is an accomplishment and the team work deserves to be recognized too. A big thank you to Anyait Sophie, Rutayisire Meddy, Kisengula Ibrahim, Ssebunya Patrick to mention but a few.

Last but not least ( and should have come first, lol) I thank the Almighty God for bringing us to the realisation of this success.
