Women who have experienced violence can face disruptions to their daily work, risking their job security, as well as incur significant costs when seeking physical and mental services. Preventing violence before it occurs can reduce the economic cost of violence against women. Research conducted on the SASA! approach revealed that the average cost of reaching a community member in Uganda was $5 annually, while the cost of IPV case averted was $460. #16Days #RecommitToBeijing #TrackThePromise #Beijing30ActionNow #EndVAWG #PreventVAWG
There is a clear link between the environment and VAW, with climate change worsening rates of #VAWG. For example, women and girls may have to make longer and more frequent journeys to find food or water, making them vulnerable to sexual assault. CEDOVIP is working to integrate GBV prevention into climate change initiatives https://www.cedovip.org/uganda-government-partners-with-cedovip-and-ww2preventvawg-to-integrate-gbv-prevention-in-climate-change-initiatives/ #16Days #RecommitToBeijing #TrackThePromise #Beijing30ActionNow #EndVAWG #entThere is a clear link between the environment and VAW, with climate change worsening rates of #VAWG. The Beijing Platform for Action asserts that the human rights of women and girls are inalienable, integral and indivisible. Governments have a responsibility to not only refrain from violating women’s human rights, but to actively promote these rights. Violence against women infringes upon and negates women’s enjoyment and fulfillment of fundamental freedoms. #16Days #RecommitToBeijing #TrackThePromise #Beijing30ActionNow #EndVAWG #16DaysOfActivism #PreventVAWG
The institutions that structure our communities, countries, and global community have an obligation under BPfA to mainstream gender analyses and considerations into programs, policies and data collection efforts. Over the past 30 years, advances in how we collect, collate, and analyze data on #VAW (violence against women) prevention has improved significantly, with clear evidence showing that we can prevent violence against women. #16Days #RecommitToBeijing #TrackThePromise #Beijing30ActionNow #16DaysOfActivism #EndVAWG #PreventVAWG #Activism
VAW impacts women’s physical and mental health. Violence can lead to fatal outcomes such as homicide or suicide, as well as unintended pregnancies, induced abortions and sexually transmitted infections. By preventing VAW, we can realize women’s basic human right to health. #16Days #RecommitToBeijing #TrackThePromise #Beijing30ActionNow #EndVAWG #PreventVAWG #Activism
Women cannot lead when they aren’t safe. Women in politics face a high risk of violence, violating their right to exercise political leadership. Research by @Pollicy on the 2021 Ugandan Election revealed that female candidates were more likely to experience trolling, sexual violence, and body shaming as measures of online-violence against women in politics. #16Days #RecommitToBeijing #TrackThePromise #Beijing30ActionNow #EndVAWG #PreventVAWG
School-related gender-based violence affects 246 million children around the world. Girls, particularly LBQ students and girls and young women with disabilities, face increased risk of SRGBV. Preventing violence in schools, such as through the Good School Toolkit, can create safer schools where girls can learn without fear. #16Days #RecommitToBeijing #TrackThePromise #Beijing30ActionNow
