[11/29/20]   Coding Game Improving children's Problem Solving Skills

By now, you have learned the 5 crucial coding skills someone needs to be a good computer programmer. You also practiced the skills of decomposition and thinking from different perspectives. Today, we talk about debug, finding and fixing mistakes. Debugging skill is essentially problem-solving skill because you debug when the code is not working.

[11/24/20]   What are the benefits of learning coding for kids?

Stronger Future with STEM

Whether your child wants to be a doctor, drive big trucks, be a chef or create art, chances are they’ll be working with one or more of the STEM disciplines: science, technology, engineering or math.

They don’t need to be experts at STEM – just learning the basics of coding can give them a much deeper understanding of the technologies they’ll be working with as well as the tools they need to help improve processes and workloads in their area of work.

[11/18/20]   What are the benefits of learning coding for kids?

Curiosity, Creativity and Confidence

Children can make villains’ lairs, rockets or doll houses out of cardboard box and crayons.

Imagine what they can do with code! Children find creative ways to use what they have to build something new. If they want to program a playlist, make a LEGO® animal or robot come to life, or even design a new game, they can use the building blocks of code to create their own unique toys, gadgets or engaging stories to play out with friends. That’s a pretty great feeling we bring to Get2ICT Coding Dojo!💞

[11/16/20]   What are the benefits of learning coding for kids?

Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills

When you lift an arm to raise a glass of milk to your mouth, you do it without thinking about HOW you do it. As kids try to program the actions of a robot or a computer program or game, they learn to identify all the small steps that, when combined, create a bigger journey. They learn to anticipate obstacles, find creative shortcuts, or add unexpected details that improve the experience. We can’t promise that if they successfully get a robot to lift a glass of milk today they’ll send a rocket to Mars in 20 years, but they can definitely have fun trying!💞

[11/13/20]   What are the benefits of learning to code for kids?

Language Skills

Did you know that learning the languages and patterns of computer code, such as HTML, is very similar to learning a different language like English, Swahili, Luganda, Acholi etc? The skills your child learns from coding at Get2ICT Dojo can be directly applied to breaking down grammar rules and syntax of other languages!

[11/11/20]   What are the benefits of learning to code for children?

Programming or coding as we know it can immensely trigger and motivate your child’s interest, desire, and ability to combine their sense of logical reasoning with their intuition. Children instantly see it as a tool for testing their creative stream of imagination in the “what happens if I do this?” questions and ideas equal to creative imagination and this is what we do at Get2ICT! We guide our children to become independent creative developers in the era of technology.

When your child is learning to code with their computer, robot, tablet, or other screens, it’s not just idle screen time. It’s an active engagement and developing activity that, in the process, teaches them valuable life skills:

[11/11/20]   Why Should Your Child Learn to Code?

Because coding creates worlds of endless opportunities and possibilities. We could leave it at this because that’s the quickest answer, but keep reading in the next coming days, and we will tell you a little more about what we have discovered happens when children learn coding through play!

[11/09/20]   Anyone can code, you can too! We will help you learn how. It’s fun, free, and easy. Contact or Whatsapp us on +256-772-329590

Hi Guys please help me vote for this video (Tiny Tickers) that is up for an award to create awareness for babies born with Congental heart defects (CHD).

Those of you who have been in school for a few years will remember that my grandson Billy was born just over 3 years ago with a congenital heart defect ( CHD) and had life saving open heart surgery at 7 days old. Now a cheeky, super active 3 year old it's hard to believe that he had such a rocky start to life!
Last Christmas Billy, and his mum Becky, starred in a short movie advertising the work of a small British charity called Tiny Tickers. This video is now up for an award competing against big names like Virgin trains and Coca Cola. Please vote for the Tiny Tickers video to help us to raise awareness of the many babies born every year with a CHD

[12/10/19]   At Get2ICT we want to stress that one of the most important aspect of computer science is the understanding how it can help solve the challenges faced in the world today. As we teach this new superpower, we also need to teach the children that with great power comes great responsibility.

Welcome back everyone, the term started busy at Get2ICT. This is feedback from the previous coding lessons. Children of the higher classes have been working on developing the app ideas. They have worked on developing the interfaces and they are soon to begin coding the app and testing on the app on any mobile devices. For the younger ones they have been working on developing their coding skills using very simple coding programs. Here are some pictures to share

[01/11/19]   Classes resume next week on Friday 18th January.

In the last two sessions, the children have been working to describe what happens in a computer game. They use logical reasoning to make predictions of what the game or program Will do, then run a test to their predictions. Our discussions showed children's understanding that games are made up of precise sets of instructions. Algorithms!

The Internet: Cybersecurity & Crime

Don't get Hacked!!

The Internet is open and exposed and everything that you post to it can be seen by anyone interested unless you put in some sort of protection. Over the years the information gate way has developed in so many ways in that in some really developed countries people are more worried about illegitimate access to their information than anything else. In other wards HACKED!!! Why is this so? Because of the robust development in the info gate way, computer, mobile devices are regularly being tested by criminals, terrorists, or even Gov agents for weakness or vulnerabilities. As I write today, stealing your information, accounts including financial details from your device is a simple as stealing the cookie from the kitchen cookie jar that is if you are not careful, you can lose all your hard earned money. [10/03/18]   As parents and teachers we need to be vigilant about protecting our children online. Children as little as three years old are beginning to spend an average of 5 and a half hours on the internet in a week often playing online games. By age 11/12 and onward, that weekly internet usage can be predetermined to escalate above seventeen hours. With online sexual predators, cyberbullying, and identity theft, the internet is full of cybersecurity risks for children and young adults. These are issues addressed by seconary students from all regions around uganda. We are definitely not left behind....#21century learners. Thank you Uganda communications Commission and isocugandachapter

It was such a great honor being selected as a guest Judge by @UCC to evaluate student's Internet Safety essays. Listening and reading the essays from all around Uganda was so exhilarating. What a way to celebrate 20 years!! Congratulations Uganda Communications Commission

The children finally competed programming their games yesterday. Please feel free to come see their work when you come for pickup. It's a great opportunity for them to explain how their lines of codes work. Coding provides a very rich opportunity for children to learn problem solving skills and resilience. Here is some of their game interface and coding...

[09/21/18]   Did you know that essentially coding is all about a more effective way for problem solving which is a Meta skill? As a CS teacher I always teach my children to recognise that we all have problems; big and small. The way we deal with each is a personal decision but the same systems would apply to the random ways we solve the problem. i.e Identify the problem, try a solution, if not working try another, if it still doesn’t work, try again and again until you get a satisfactory solution.

The Get2ICT Story

We are delighted that you have decided to join the ever growing and now running GET2ICT Computer Coding Dojo. There could be not a more exciting time to join our club, which is inspiring a whole new generation of boys and girls across Uganda, to increase and improve their ICT/programming skills.

Coding stories and coding games are playful, hands-on ways for children to explore and experiment with early coding. They offer opportunities for interactions and collaborative learning. If coding is new to you, you will find that it builds on many early math and literacy concepts you already are familiar with.

Coding (or programming) is a basic language of the digital age. It involves the process of creating step-by-step instructions a computer understands and needs in order for its programs to work. Gaming systems, tablets, cars, cell phones, TVs—even washing machines!—all use coding to function properly.

Early coding, or pre-coding, offers children experiences that integrate communication, thinking, and problem solving. These are 21st century skills that are valuable for children’s future success in our digital world.
