HOW WORDS AFFECT OUR EMOTIONS
JOB 22:
Hurtful words have a profound impact on our emotions, often causing deep-seated pain, lowering self-esteem, and triggering a range of negative emotions. They can leave lasting scars on our mental and emotional well-being, affecting our confidence, sense of worth, and overall outlook on life.

Biblically, numerous examples highlight the destructive power of words on emotions. In our portion of scripture today, Job's friends, in their attempts to explain his suffering, spoke hurtful and accusatory words, intensifying his emotional distress. Their words added to his already overwhelming trials, causing further anguish.

We must remember that the family, friends, co-workers, neighbors or even relatives and caretakers are not responsible for our happiness. They are not charged with the status of our hearts and souls. And they cannot control how we feel, nor leap into our minds in an effort to understand the depth of our emotions.

The book of Proverbs is rich with wisdom about the impact of words on our emotions.

Proverbs 12:18
There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

This scripture compares harsh words to sword thrusts, emphasizing the piercing and damaging nature of hurtful speech.

Proverbs 18:21 states, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue," highlighting the immense influence words have in either causing harm or bringing healing and life.

Moreover, the Bible underscores the importance of using words to build others up and offer encouragement.

Ephesians 4:29 advises, "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."

When we are misunderstood, or a family member misunderstands us, we feel hopeless to plead our case.
Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life.

This scripture instructs us to guard our hearts, but constructing healthy boundaries among the family God has placed us with is extremely challenging.

And we look back in our past, I can confidently say that there are people here who still remember the things that were said to them from childhood. Some of you saw how your mom was abused by your father and those words have taken root in your life causing bitterness, rage and resentment in your life = unforgiveness

Hurtful words can have a profound impact on our emotions, causing feelings of sadness, anger, shame, or worthlessness. They can deeply wound self-esteem and create lasting emotional pain.

Heavenly Father, we come before you with hearts full of love and concern for our motherland Uganda 🇺🇬 on this 61st Independence Day! We pray for peace, prosperity, and unity to reign in this beautiful nation.
