I first learn't about refactory program from Laboremus talk at OutBoxEdu and could not understand what the concept was all about?
Today i happen to discover the meaning and would like share info with all software developers out there.

Refactoring is "the process of changing a software system in such a way that it does not alter the external behavior of the code yet improves its internal structure," according to Martin Fowler, the "father" of refactoring.

The concept of refactoring covers practically any revision or cleaning up of source code, but Fowler consolidated many best practices from across the software development industry into a specific list of "refactoring" and described methods to implement them in his book, Refactoring: Improving the Design of Existing Code. While refactoring can be applied to any programming language, the majority of refactoring tools were originally developed for the Java language.

One approach to refactoring is to improve the structure of source code at one point and then extend the same changes systematically to all applicable references throughout the program. The result is to make the code more efficient, scalable, maintainable or reusable, without actually changing any functions of the program itself.

"Refactoring is a vital part of software code maintenance. This restructuring process improves the code's readability and extensibility -- it might even address looming flaws before users experience their effects." - Stephen J. Bigelow
Hi Laboremus,
Please meet Anne-Marit Pettersen, our new HR Manager at Laboremus Uganda Limited who joined us early this year, 2018. She comes from Norway, more specifically the far north of Norway.

Anna, as you may simply call her, holds a bachelor’s degree in Africa studies, and a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict transformation. In addition, she has a one-year course in Leadership and project management.

For her Bachelor’s degree, Anna went to NTNU - the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and for her master’s she went to UIT- The Artic University of Norway.

As part of her bachelor’s degree, she also studied at Makerere University Kampala for 1 semester in 2012.

Before joining Laboremus, Anna worked for 1 year at the Norwegian Embassy in Kampala, first as an intern for six months, and then as a Programme officer.

She had previously worked in Zimbabwe for 13 months in 2015/16 in the secretariat of ZINASU, Zimbabwe’s largest student union, as part of the FK exchange programme. The focus of the exchange was on academic freedom and student’s rights and her main tasks involved capacity building and organizational development as well as administrative tasks.

Anne-Marit likes dancing and she is social. She also enjoys traveling and hiking. She is passionate about youth development, students’ rights and academic freedom as well as women’s rights and therefore she likes attending seminars and workshops on such topics.

Anna says she was very happy to join Laboremus especially because she was already aware of the company some time back.

Anna would like to contribute in a positive way to keep all staff happy and to also increase her own skills and hopefully pick up some fancy IT skills.

Anna’s dream is to keep growing as a person to contribute positively to the world and to have enough time and money to travel and see the world.

She is confident that she has good organizational skills while she still expects to become even more efficient with performing her tasks as she learns and develops many more.

Christmas came early: Emata is officially a licensed Microfinance Institution!

After years of hard work, hundreds of thousands of lines of code, some blood and tears, and hour upon hour spent on murram roads to visit our partner cooperatives, we got an early Christmas present this week:

We are officially a licensed #Microfinance Institution! ✨

A special thank you to everyone who has supported us on our journey to make this possible: Rabobank, Financial Sector Deepening Uganda, Norad, UN Capital Development Fund and countless others!

Hi there! Here's #DevOps Charles to remind you that December is a good time to change from the same password (P4ssw0rd) on all accounts to a password manager/vault.

If not, you are only making it easier for someone to compromise your accounts. Santa Claus is the only trespasser we want for Christmas!

01/12/2020

It's finally December! Wishing you all a peaceful month as we race to the finish line of a different and challenging year. 🎅🏿🎄🤶🏿

We just got back from our biannual company retreat! This one was extra special since many people work from home these days.

Why is retreat so important to us?
1️⃣ We get to know each other better outside of work
2️⃣ It allows us to reflect on how we want our workplace to be
3️⃣ Some fresh air is good for both body and mind!

Today, we are back in office and ready to change the financial industry, one line of a code at a time!
