PHOTOS:
Member of Parliament for Oyam South Hon Betty Amongi and KfW Eastern Africa/AU Director Christoph Tiskens have broken ground for the new Karuma Water Treatment Plant.

The Government of Uganda through National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in partnership with Development partner KfW has broken ground for the new Gulu water supply Treatment at Karuma designed to serve over 484,000 people.

The plant shall initially produce 10million litres of water per day

This capacity shall suffice to meet the short term demands of Gulu City and the six towns en route.

The towns include; Kamdini, Koro Abili, Karuma, Bobi, Palenga, Minakuru and Gulu City.

This will supplement the existing production of 10 million litres per day from the recently refurbished treatment plant in the City.

Previous investment increased the production supply from 5 million to 10 million litres per day meaning that upon completion of the project, a total of 20 million litres will be available for use daily, which is sufficient to satisfy current demands in the supply area.

Provisions to upscale the water production capacity to 30 million litres per day by 2040 have been made.

Federation of Uganda Employers Awards Launched.

Speaking at the Launch, FUE Chairperson Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha underscored the importance of the awards.
According to Eng Mugisha, the awards should identify good practices, areas of improvement and subsequently create learning opportunities for employers to deliver better on their respective mandates.

"Improving productivity should be pivotal to the survey with an aim of helping organisations do better" he said

He urged institutions not to share manipulated data, but share the truth for an objective analysis, purpose and subsequently improve performance.

He tasked organisations to look at the exercise as an opportunity to benchmark on the "next industry practices".

"This is not a competition but a process intended to recognize good practices among employers." he said

He commended the Federation's Executive Director, whose strategic leadership has propelled the Federation to higher frontiers. He appreciated the Federation's Governing Council, staff, award sponsors, ILO, DFPA, PWC, Makerere University among others.
