COVID-19 FUELED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND FATALITY

Domestic Violence is caused by among others the following: the need to control and dominate the others, low self-esteem, extreme jealousy, difficulties in regulating anger and emotions, undiagnosed personality disorder and LACK or INADEQUACY

International conference on the Great lakes region has this to not “In Africa and in the Great Lakes Region, we are still gathering data, but tentative reports on SGBV are equally worrying. In Uganda for example, it is clear that there has been more cases of domestic violence since lockdown than we have had for corona virus. In fact,Uganda has registered several deaths due to domestic violence and no death from COVID-19”.

In my outline of the causes, i made one cause LACK and INADEQUACY distinctive because I strongly believe; it is the main cause of domestic violence against children, women and men in families in Uganda just is making headlines for all media houses taking lives more than Corona. Just to site a few examples, because of the deficient stimulated by COVID-19 in Uganda;

 A man committed su***de because the wife was asking for salt costing shs. 2,000 at most which is less than $1 that he could not afford,

 A woman locked her children in the house together with her and before them she hanged herself because she could not afford a meal for them,

 In the very period a woman in Mukono abandoned her child at a hospital because she was pregnant and could not afford taking care of a two year old at the same time,

 Another woman in Mubende slaughtered her own child over shs. 500 the boy had misused yet it was meant for a whole family.

These examples and the like are just so many to an extent that those that have been reported to police and captured by the media are just a tip of an iceberg that is about to wreck a titanic.

It has been scientifically approved that behaviour from growing up in a household where domestic violence was accepted as normal in that family contributes greatly to the violent behaviour of people. Studies further suggest that violent behaviour often is caused by an interaction of situational and individual factors. That means that abusers learn violent behaviour from their family, people in their community as they grow up but also from experience acquired as they are being victimised. They may have seen violence often or they may have been victims themselves thus many abusers admit having been abused as a children.

Children who witness and are actual victims of violence may believe that violence is a reasonable way to resolve their unsmooth relations with people. Girls who witness and experience domestic violence in their families are likely to be victimized by their own husbands and some may develop life forbear for marriage and family life, hence being denied meaningful adult life.

Friend who is reading this, it is my responsibility and yours as well to help reduce domestic violence by providing a family with a basic need. As noted above, the causes of those incidents noted are just very petty needs to many of us yet they look problems to others.
COVID-19 is on a high and stable rise in Uganda meaning that the cases of such violence are steadily increasing and probably may be worse if the provision of necessities in the underprivileged families is NOT addressed.

I therefore beseech and call upon you to partner with us as we reach families with basic needs to save lives and have better people for tomorrow society. Together let us fight the worst enemy disguising as COVID-19 yet the two are totally different with distinctive fatality rate according to Uganda standards.

Make a child smile!!!!!

Recently i was approached by a mother and a widow. She was deeply disturbed by lack of school fees to take back her children (ORPHANS) to school. The love she had for her Children had made her overlook the value of her previous property the late husband left for them, a land title on which their small house stands.

She was asking me to take her land title as collateral to that i can give her the money she needed to take the children back to school. I was highly astonished at the love she has for her children and i wished all parents did.

I am however so grateful to the Almighty God who enabled to solve her need without taking away her land title. If we extend love to one another, the World is a better place to live.

No parent or guardian of a sounding mind wishes to see his or her children suffer or live a miserable life, however sometimes conditions beyond one’s control lead to miserable life to prevail. It’s important to note though, that no matter what prevails as long as one is living, nothing can take away the Love and Care as long as you are willing to. These two are buried deep in the heart that no situation in the name of lack can reach, for the two can always be done within someone’s reach and ability. Always Love and care within your reach and as God enables you to reach beyond and beyond, you will add other ingredients in your already existing Love and care. Remember you can give without Love but you can’t Love without giving, therefore a giving cushioned with love is preferred; Love first, then give.
My fellow parents and guardians, do not wait to have in excess of what currently you have today to show how much you love and care for the children you have, begin NOW with what you have. Words of love, encouragements and appreciation, patting, hugs, high-five among others are all non costly yet have and make more impact in showing Love and care than the costly ones.
We are stewards of the children that God has trusted us with and because we are just stewards, our Master the owner of the children knows more than us what His children want, but He will only pass it through a conduit that is full of Love, for Himself is Love. In love, nurture those children regardless of how you lack and tomorrow they will be better people to change the world.
From a humble beginning but with loving and caring parents, the world has benefited from innovative, creative and hardworking people just because during their childhood they were loved and cared for. It is also very important to note that most of the notorious people history and current affairs have such as serial killers among others, are all people that missed childhood Love and Care. For the few that were loved and cared but instead became notorious, you will find out that they had missing links in one way or the other during childhood, for example Teddy Bundy thought was mothered by his grandmother only to discover that who he called a sister was actually his mother.
What you instill in a child today in terms of Love and care will determine his or her tomorrow; the good news about this is that the most valuable of these actually cost nothing!!

As a child, I lived in most cases with my mother. She could not give us all we wanted but one thing I know , she LOVED and LOVES us. Am now a parent too but still remember how much my poor maama loved me. We lived near a school so we could go back home for lunch and then back to school for afternoon and early evening classes. Having realised that she could not prepare lunch for us in time as she had to be in the garden (ours and at times for others either for food or money) she secretly talked to a school cook to secretly give us food at school during lunch and she could pay him some little money whenever she got it. She was poor but full of love for her children, i testify because I felt loved by my mother.
Dear parents/guardians we can love our children with or without money. Love cushions all the other challenges that may be prevailing in a family. Live with your children in your families as this will strengthen the bond amongst family members . Sending or giving them away to foster homes may be a good and quick solution but a permanent damage to family ties. A family is very important, that is why even Jesus had to be born not by Marry, but Marry a wife to Joseph- a family set up, that is why even His lineage is very clear in the Bible.
