Cycad Village Uganda promotes and conserves the endangered Cycads growing in the Wilderness in Uganda.
Cycads are the oldest plants on earth, believed to have outlived the era of the dinosaurs.
Some years ago, we planted Encepharlatos Whitelockii at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) in Entebbe.
Glad to see the Cycads growing well.
Still on the Encephalartos Equatorialis seeds. They passed the water test, however on cutting the seeds, the embryo doesn't seem well developed.
Let's keep trying...

Last month, we were honored to host Matooke tours on a FAMtrip .
They visited the gorge,home to the Encepharlatos whiteloocki, Mpanga falls, Mahyoro landing site.

People in the community continue to cut both endemic trees and Cycads for firewood, if only renewable energy was made affordable, this would greatly support our conservation efforts
As covid 19 reached level 4 in Uganda, Cycad Village Uganda decided to buy some masks for the community members that are engaged in conservation efforts.

Cycad Village Uganda continues to conserve the Cycads in Mpanga Gorge, its a something that we must do, be the voice for the voiceless. The people in the community continue to burn them as they prepare to cultivate their gardens.
There is a Hydro power dam in the Gorge that generates electricity that is added to the National grid. The Gorge is the home to the historical cycads.
