Willowintl Uganda
Striving to end human trafficking within communities and reduce levels of victimization.
Willow International with support from the Uganda Police Force had an opportunity to train a total of 49 local religious leaders from central Uganda on issues concerning Trafficking in Persons. The participants included: Catholic church leaders, Muslim leaders, Orthodox church leaders, Pentacostal church leaders to mention but a few.
Religious leaders are some of the key people that influence our local communities greatly within the country.
As 1st responders in the community, the religious leaders are now aware of their vital role in contributing towards victim protection & support and partaking in prevention/awareness initiatives to reduce victimization within communities through knowledge sharing.
Human trafficking/ Trafficking in Persons (Okukusibwa) simply refers to the selling and buying of humans for purposes of exploitation. This crime is a severe attack on the human security and is greatly affecting the youth of Uganda today.
Uganda has struggled with the crime of trafficking in persons which has greatly targeted and affected the youth. According to the Trafficking in Persons Report from 2020, it was estimated that traffickers are currently exploiting 7,000 to 12,000 children through s*x trafficking in Uganda, amongst many other forms of exploitation.
It is therefore important to know what the various forms of human trafficking are surrounding in efforts to safe guard ourselves.
