The elephants that pass through camp are part of one of the largest populations left in Africa. They don't just move through the landscape. They maintain it by keeping woodlands open and acacias in check. Remove them, and the entire ecosystem shifts.

This is the kind of safari that doesn’t insist on costing a fortune. At Slow Selous, the wild is quite literally on your doorstep. For the adventurers who come prepared — bring your own tent and gear and settle into our campsite beneath the trees. You’ll have access to campsite bathrooms and all the shared comforts: the bar, campfire, pool, and that rather wonderful riverfront view.

If cooking feels overly ambitious after a day in the bush, you can always join us for meals instead. And if self-driving sounds a touch too energetic, you can book game drives with us too. The season opens 24 May.

Book your stay at theslowleopard.com. Karibuni!

For centuries, the Kilwa coast has stood the test of time. Safeguarding it can take work. From restoring vibrant mangroves and flourishing reefs to cultivating seaweed farms, these quiet yet impactful endeavors may not make headlines.

We at the Slow Leopard are proud to support AFO (Actions for Ocean), the people doing the patient, unsung work of protecting and restoring this extraordinary stretch of coastline we are lucky enough to call home. Go check them out.
