Game app or gamification?
They may use similar mechanics, but they solve completely different product problems.
A game app is built around entertainment, challenge, progression and replay.
Gamification supports another goal, such as learning, completing tasks, building habits or improving retention.
And no, adding points and badges does not magically create gamification. Humanity has tried, repeatedly.
The real question is:
Why should the user return?
Build the return loop first.
Then design the rewards around it.

The fastest way to waste an app budget is to start development too early.
A feature list is not a product plan.

— Who will use the product?
— What painful problem will it solve?
— What is the primary action?
— What belongs in the first version?
— What should wait until later?
— What systems and integrations are required?
— How will success be measured?
