๐๐ฑ International Day of Pulses | Celebrating Mediterranean Power Crops ๐ฑ๐
Today, we celebrate the International Day of Pulses (legumes) : a cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet and a key ally for sustainable agriculture and food security.
Across Mediterranean regions, pulses like lentils, chickpeas, faba beans, Fenugreek, and peas support:
โ๏ธ Healthy soils through nitrogen fixation
โ๏ธ Climate-resilient farming systems
โ๏ธ Nutritious, affordable, and local food
โ๏ธ Reduced environmental footprint
Through initiatives such as BENEFIT MED - PRIMA , Forecast Project - PRIMA and , Mediterranean farmers and stakeholders are working together to revitalize legume value chains, promote agroecological practices, and strengthen rural livelihoods โ proving that traditional crops can drive innovative solutions for the future.
๐ฟ Pulses are not just food : they are a pathway to resilient Mediterranean territories.

๐ฟ FORECAST 1st EC Meeting: A Resounding Success! ๐ฟ
On January 20th, 2026, the Executive Committee Meeting marked a significant milestone for FORECAST. This gathering emphasized our core objectives, strengthened collaboration among partners, and delivered key updates on ongoing activities while outlining upcoming tasks. ๐
FORECAST is pioneering sustainable solutions to revitalize agroforestry systems across the Mediterranean region. ๐ Our innovative strategy integrates highly resilient, locally-adapted orphan legumes and advanced seed technologies into existing agroforestry systems. This addresses diverse socioeconomic and pedoclimatic conditions throughout the Mediterranean. ๐ฑ๐ง
By blending precision farming techniques with traditional practices, FORECAST will overcome barriers to adoption and scaling-up of these transformative agroforestry practices. ๐
Stay tuned for more updates!
