We are so happy with our newly accessible office! Huge shout out to Ra'es Hadomi Timor Oan (RHTO) and their team of builders who implemented the whole process for us (including design, sourcing, project management and evaluation). They were incredibly generous and professional in every stage of the process. We learnt so much from them. ❤️ Huge thanks also to our office mates The Equality Institute who supported the process.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our training on the Definition of Land Ownership Law (Law 13/2017)!

We talked about basic concepts of land rights, the definition of possession, what land registration processes should look like and how land ownership disputes should be resolved according to the law. The members of Rede ba Rai brought fascinating real cases which helped us to apply what we learnt to the real world. And of course, we had a lot of fun along the way playing our new land law card game!

Participants asked some big questions:
-Is the law fair?
-How will community property and community protection zones be protected in the future?
-What kind of incentives can be provided to spouses to make joint declarations as mandated in Article 32.7?
-When will a law regulating eviction processes be approved?

Big thanks to Maun Mariano from La'o Hamutuk who shared a presentation on Rede ba Rai's research on the impact of the SNC land registration process on vulnerable populations.

Last week we worked with the Rede ba Rai to facilitate their 2025-2028 strategic plan. It was so inspiring to reflect with them on the advocacy successes that their members have achieved over the years, the new challenges they are facing and to hear about their future priorities working on women's land rights, defending communities who are facing forced eviction and advocating for better land laws in Timor-Leste! We were honoured to be a part of the process and humbled by their commitment to fighting land injustice.

Last week we had a great week sharing ideas and learning with our friends and colleagues from Juristas Advocasia, Rede ba Rai, Oxfam in Timor-Leste, Fokupers Timor Leste, HABURAS FOUNDATION , Assosiasaun Chega Ba Ita - ACbit, AJAR Timor-Leste , Equality Institute and JSMP Timor-Leste.

Huge thanks to Mariano from La'o Hamutuk who gave a great presentation on the impact of land titling on women's land rights, the The Equality Institute who shared ideas with us about how to explain social norms, and Resource Equity who developed a great definition of tenure security that we used in our training.

Thanks also to the team Oxfam in Timor-Leste and the Kōtui Programme for their support.

First week back in the office and we got straight into developing our Do No Harm strategy using fabulous tools that we got from our wonderful partner The Equality Institute. And thinking hard about our shared values with our partners in the Kōtui Programme, Oxfam in Timor-Leste, Rede ba Rai, Juristas Advocasia, and Assosiasaun Chega Ba Ita - ACbit. Thanks for a great start to the year guys!! 😍
