In tribute to maun João.

João Maria Lopes
Born on 12 November 1949
Died on 1 March 2026 (aged 76)

Joined the Maubisse Coffee Producers Cooperative “COCAMAU” in 2013 as part of Raimera group in Suco Edi. In 2018, he and eight others became independent as the Erdautuba group, with him as its representative. By 2026, membership had grown to 16.

Volunteered as a model farmer for the coffee field improvement project launched in 2019, undertaking fundamental improvements to his own two coffee fields. He uprooted 250 old trees, cut back 2,450 others, and cultivated 3,500 new coffee seedlings and planted 2,500 of them. The visible changes demonstrated in his coffee fields motivated other cooperative members, leading 305 households to follow his example and improve their fields within five years.

At the 2024 Timor-Leste Coffee Festival, he secured second place in the Coffee Farm Improvement Competition and took first place in the Coffee Quality Competition (fully washed category), clearly demonstrating how proper care of coffee farms impacts quality.

PARCIC hereby honours maun Joao's achievements. For us, who wished to support Timorese coffee farmers in spreading awareness of the need for field improvements through their own voices, each of his words resonated with farmers and all those involved in the coffee sector with a persuasive power beyond our imagination.

Today, Idalia — the National Aeropress Champion of Timor-Leste — proudly represented our country at the World Aeropress Championship (WAC) in Seoul, South Korea.

Although she did not advance to the next round, Idalia has already achieved something remarkable: she brought the name of Timor-Leste to the world stage and helped promote Timor Coffee in coffee shops across Korea.

National Aeropress Championship 2025 – Timor-Leste! ☕🏆

On November 19, the National Aeropress Competition began with Round 1 & Round 2 at Cafe Atasabe Cristo Rei, which was attended by 50 participants from various companies and individuals.

Then, on November 21, the Semi-Final and Final Round were held at the Presidential Palace.

✨ First Day of Timor Coffee Festival 2025
Start with the inspiring and successful Barista Workshop!

On 17 November at DIT and 20 November at ETCI (Gleno), the workshop was led by Zito Correia and Amelia da Costa as organizers, together with experienced baristas and new entrepreneurs such as Ameta (Café Atsabe) and Fatima (Fatima Café), who shared experiences on how they started as young entrepreneurs in the industry coffee.

☕️✨ MEET OUR THIRD JUDGE! For the Coffee Quality Competition and National Aeropress Competition 2025,

we’re honored to introduce Angus, whose coffee journey spans two decades across the Melbourne and London specialty coffee scenes.

From his early days as a barista in Melbourne to mastering roasting at St Ali, developing training systems at Seven Seeds, and understanding green coffee importation at Silo, Angus has built expertise across the entire coffee chain.

At Square Mile Coffee London, he advanced from production assistant to production manager and quality control adviser under founder Anette Moldvaer.

In 2017, Angus founded Blume Coffee Roasters with a mission to make modern specialty coffee simple, accessible, and above all — delicious! ☕️🌍
