We advise to you the next trip to Tajikistan Tajikistan🇹🇯Customs and traditions

Tajiks are one of the most ancient peoples in the world. Archaeologists believe that the first settlements on the territory of Tajikistan appeared in the early Paleolithic era, 15 - 20 thousand years ago. The traditions and customs of this people developed over hundreds and hundreds of years, and through all this time its representatives managed to carry their foundations, practically preserving them in their original form. One era replaced another, it has always been and always will be, but even so, the Tajik people did not reject the fact that their ancestors created generations. Traditions created long ago have now become not just a part of the life of this ethnic group, but have penetrated their very consciousness and formed their eastern mentality.

Wedding tradition.
For Tajiks living on a flat terrain (and not in the mountains), the wedding ceremony is very unique in nature, in contrast to the wedding traditions observed by other Central Asian peoples. Many Central Asian ethnic groups begin the wedding ceremony with the betrothal of the bride and groom and various events prepared by senior family members of both sides.

But the Tajik wedding is completely different. The fact is that it lasts for seven whole days! On the first day of the ceremony, the bride and groom publicly announce their marriage, and in both families solemn gala dinners are arranged, which in turn last three days.

On the fifth day, the groom, accompanied by friends and relatives, goes to the bride's house. There, the newlyweds take an oath before the imam, after which they should drink a cup of water and eat some meat and bread with salt. This rite means that the desire of the bride and groom to become spouses is fixed by higher forces, and only now they have the right to be together.

After that, the great festival begins. People sing and dance until midnight. Then the newlyweds leave the guests and go to the groom's house on one horse. On the sixth day, the bride’s family members visit the groom and spend the night there, which, according to Tajik tradition, means the completion of a long wedding ceremony.

The next step is the period of the so-called honeymoon, which lasts for 40 days. All this time, young spouses spend under the same roof with the parents and relatives of the husband. This is all done so that his family can, in which case, protect the bride and groom from various kinds of problems at the very beginning of their married life.

Holidays.
In Tajikistan, mainly religious holidays are celebrated, for example, such as Navruz - the Muslim New Year, which is celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox. It is a symbol of new life and new hopes, but only for those who love and sincerely believe in the power of this holiday. Entire villages prepare for the celebration, prepare dishes that are exceptional for this time of year, and when Nowruz arrives, the holiday tables literally burst with treats.

The same thing happens during the celebration of Eid al-Adha, when up to 70 - 80 people visit each average family per day, while not counting the many young children who begin to spin under the feet of adults in the morning in the desire to get some sweetness.

Sayri Lola translated into Russian means "Tulip Festival". His celebration is directly related to choral and dance music. It is worth noting that this holiday did not appear from scratch, because Tajikistan has always been the home of poppies and tulips, and Tajik tulips at one time became the so-called "source" of the appearance of the famous German tulips.

Teahouse.
Residents of Tajikistan often prefer to enjoy their tea tradition in local establishments called “teahouse”, i.e. “Tea house” or “tea room”. Chaykhona is a place where men of all ages can come together and discuss the latest news, or pressing issues in their lives. By the way, with respect to tea, Tajiks (and not only) have a custom according to which they, having finished the last drop of tea in their tea.
