Songkran is a traditional Thai festival that marks the Thai New Year, typically celebrated from April 12th to 15th each year. It is one of the most significant holidays in Thailand and is known for its lively water fights and vibrant street parties. The festival originated as a ritual where people would sprinkle water on Buddha statues and on the hands of elders to seek blessings for the upcoming year. Over time, it has evolved into a nationwide water festival where people of all ages take to the streets with water guns, buckets, and hoses to engage in friendly water battles. Songkran is also a time for family reunions, temple visits, and paying respects to ancestors. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm, joy, and a spirit of renewal, symbolizing the washing away of the old year's misfortunes and welcoming the new year with fresh beginnings.
