Lägern Hochwacht: A restaurant renovated from a tower more than 120 years old!!

This tower with its long history was gradually built over a hundred years. In recent times, the old building was renovated with a new wooden structure and with eco-friendly materials from the local area and people. For the renovation, the goal was to convey the history of the place to visitors, while utilizing local, sustainable materials.

With the remodel, the new building surrounds the pre-existing tower and creates an entrance that is clearly visible. The garden seating area was also renovated; improved through geometric shapes with clear proportions. Windows and façades are designed to help differentiate between buildings.

Sheep’s wool is used as an insulating material. There is also a large solar cell system on the roofs of both annexes, providing most of the electricity used year-round.

Support structures are made of spruce. The wooden frame supports a slightly sloping gable roof. All weight-bearing structures, interior materials, and furniture are also made from local spruce. A fence made from spruce surrounds the front wall of the building.

Notice the feeling of clean, simplistic elegance. Light colored conifer wood creates an open and airy ambience, while the aroma of the natural wood fills the spaces with a pleasant mood.

You can make your home or business as beautiful and refined as this! Contact us at SAK WoodWorks for premium quality spruce and pine timber!

Wood, steel, or concrete . . . which material emits the most CO2?

A fascinating piece of research studied the use of wood, steel, and concrete to make house structures. Statistical data has also been collected on these three materials used in house construction in the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, and Finland).

Results showed that the carbon dioxide emissions from the three materials were significantly different.

Wooden frame: 96 kg/cubic meter (11%)
Steel frame: 209 kg/cubic meter (23%)
Concrete frame: 602 kg/cubic meter (66%)

The results confirm that wooden structures have the lowest carbon dioxide emissions. This makes wood the most environmentally friendly structure for homes when compared to steel frames and concrete frames.

But why does wood release less CO2 than other materials? Wood is a natural material that requires very little processing compared to materials such as steel and concrete.

Many businesses are going green, and many homeowners are proudly supporting the green movement. Did you know?

Daily standing and walking on hard surfaces for long periods of time can be the cause of backache!

Walking and standing on concrete floors that are not flexible especially causes problems. Hard floors are different from the natural ground where humans and animals are supposed to walk. According to an article by Ortho Sport & Spine Physicians, the hardness of concrete puts more pressure on your spine when you walk or stand. It can also cause the lower back muscles to become tight. If you stand for a long time every day, it will result in many symptoms including back pain (especially lower back), knee pain, leg swelling, and foot pain.

Posture is also affected by overly hard surfaces. These posture problems are one of the main causes of back pain if you have to stand or walk for a long time. Of course, there are many professions where hard floors cannot be avoided for many hours. It is recommended that we always keep our spine straight whether standing, walking, or sitting.
..but if it's in our house where we have to stand and walk often, would SAK WoodWorks recommend that we try changing to a more flexible floor?

Many articles recommend to try a soft mat laid over the floor. The recommended floor is a wooden floor. Wooden floors are more flexible than concrete floors. In the long run, this makes walking or standing on wood floors more beneficial to the spine, knee joints, and ankles.

If you want to get a wooden floor, we recommend northern conifer. It can be used for both interior floors and exterior floors such as decks, balconies, and around swimming pools. Importantly, the northern conifer wood pattern is very beautiful as well. For inquiries, chat with us! You can also shop for SAK WoodWorks northern conifer materials online through your favorite channel (including Alibaba and Lazada) and stores of major retailers such as Thai Watsadu. Just thinking about going on a trip with friends in an RV is really fun…!!

Whether it's a trip to the mountains, sea, or a waterfall, if we want to soak in the atmosphere both day and night, we don't have to pay for accommodation. RVs are a second option.

Today, SAK WoodWorks will take you to look at the interior decoration of RVs using conifer wood.

Conifer is lightweight: ideal for decorating the interior of an RV. It doesn't add weight to the car, so it doesn't waste fuel. There is a lovely, natural ring pattern. With a creamy light color, conifer is easy to stain, dye, and paint. Importantly, it is a good heat and sound insulator. It helps reduce the heat from parking in the hot sun around Thailand. And it also helps reduce the noise of parties at night... 😄 But how beautiful is an RV decorated with conifer wood? Let's go see.

If you look at pictures, you will find that many RVs use conifer siding, especially for the walls and ceilings. You will find Grade-A conifer siding from SAK WoodWorks. Greater than average wood, we offer northern conifer. This is a specialty variety, from trees grown 2-3x longer than average, in a very particular climate. The wood that results is stronger and more durable. It has a creamier color and more beautiful and intricate ring patterns. This exceptional wood is processed by experts in advanced facilities, guaranteeing production of the best materials. Kiln-drying is done to exact levels, ensuring the utmost durability and longevity. Milling is done with precision, so that every piece is shaped and cut for perfect sizes, and with extra features such as T&G. Northern conifer siding is premium quality, and you will be able to tell the difference. For the most successful building, hobby, and renovation projects, trust northern conifer wooden materials from SAK WoodWorks! Chat with us today, shop online, or shop in-store!

House 0006 (Project by Architect: taller11)

An architect was tasked with the following:
Create ideal temperature and humidity sustainably within a building where there is limited space. To accomplish this, the architect cleverly utilized both space and materials. How? Let's find out!

1. A functional space was left between the house and the southwestern wall in order to create a middle area where the sun shines all day long. This area serves to adjust the temperature before entering the house.

2. Materials were used which have high thermal inertia. When a material has high thermal inertia (such as conifer wood) it means that the temperature of the material does not easily change. Therefore, these types of materials help to keep an even temperature and humidity, saving energy and creating a pleasant internal environment.

3. This design also emphasizes construction with sustainable materials that are cost saving and suitable for the weather conditions. Cement blocks were used to build the inside wall (separating the house from the center area). Gaps were filled with soil to increase strength and retain heat. No additional insulation was installed. Instead of commercial insulation, the focus was on receiving and transmitting heat naturally through the materials and spaces used.

4. The only air conditioning system in the house is a 20cm active concrete slab on the ground floor. Heat is transferred through the mass of the concrete slab upwards from the basement and stairway.

With simple materials, and a clever arrangement of spaces, this architect managed to design and build a home with extremely low operating costs. Not only is the operation of the home cost effective, it is also sustainable. The building materials themselves were eco-friendly, sustainable materials, as well.

Do you want to save on air conditioning, heating, and humidification in your home or business? SAK WoodWorks northern conifer wood is the answer. Qualities of this exceptional wood include temperature and humidity stabilization.

At SAK WoodWorks, all of our wooden materials are sustainable. Trees come from forest plantations managed for environmental preservation. No harmful chemicals are used in production. You can feel good knowing that by using sustainable wood products, you are supporting forests and forest ecosystems.

Popular items! How do they compare?

U-Groove Siding vs. V-Groove Siding!! Let's compete!! Who will win??

U-groove conifer siding - a luxurious design with deep, wide grooves that create a subtle play of shadows. Let the walls or ceiling of your room stand out with elegance.

V-groove conifer siding - a popular item for minimalist design. V-grooves provide a simple and neat, while visually interesting wall and ceiling decoration. The small V-groove between the planks adds personality to your room.

Both types of siding are adorned with the cream colors and contrasting ring patterns of conifer wood. We only use the tops of Grade A conifer trees, aged 80-150 years old, to make this siding. The annual rings are manifold and arranged in lovely detailed patterns, clearly more vibrant than average conifer wood. You can only find them at SAK WoodWorks!!

And what about our friends? Which type do you prefer? Don't forget to leave a comment and let us know!
