My First 200km Ride on a Non Gear Cycle🚴 😍

Hello and Namaskara to all the Cyclists and Readers out there 🚵🙏

During the boring lockdown we have been scrolling through post’s, reels and blogs, I’m here to share my experience of my first 200kms BRM(long-distance endurance cycling) at the age of 19 with a basic non-gear cycle...🚴
Before I portray my experience, it would be very relevant to know what BRM stand for (Because some of the new cyclists, and also my self didn't know about it after completing my ride also😅😅).
‍Brevet (Brevet de Randonneur Mondiaux – BRM) is a long distance endurance cycling,of fixed distances that are to be completed within specified time limits.
I started my cycling journey as any other kid riding a cycle with friends for the fun of it. Later this developed into a habit of commuting to school and also became my stress buster. I was excited to do morning and night rides. I used to ride alone not knowing any technicality of the bike. I got an opportunity to join the cycling community group called “weekend rider's” managed by Decathlon Whitefield. My hobby for cycling changed into my passion. I would eagerly wait for the rides conducted during the weekends to ride alongside people with the same passion. During the ride, a friend from the group encouraged me to take part in the brevet cause I was doing good for a beginner and at the same time he had plans of taking part himself.
Unfortunately, he didn't turn up and he had booked a slot only for me….
On the ride day, May 4th, 2019 I reached the starting point and was shocked 😳😳 to see a field of riders with different types of high-end cycles along with equipment that I hadn’t seen.
I was carrying a bag that consisted of a water bottle and a few bananas. I had borrowed a helmet and a good light for the night ride. I was carrying cash worth 500rs along with me for an emergency since I had no experience of what to carry along with me. I was confused to ride or go back home.😂😂 I ended up calling my girlfriend who encouraged and I was all set to ride 💪 I started with a huge crowd from the starting point after a while I was able to see 1 or 2 blinking light farther away. I was in a mindset that I had left everyone behind and was riding too fast.🤣🤣 I continued riding and had passed few checkpoints. I was drained and sleepy, ended up getting off my bike and I began walking for a while. I was starving and I couldn't find anything around me since it was midnight. I continued walking which led me to a lit place that turned out to be the checkpoint. I was glad to see riders, few were having fun, and while I found the others sleeping. One of the best things about the ride was the Pongal which they served. I fell in love all over again with the dish. I filled my pocket with chikki ( it’s a small peanut candy) and a banana which gave me the boost to complete the Brevet in 11 hours 37 min, with no energy to spear.😅😅 I ended up calling my friend for a ride back home. I had a hell of an experience for my first Brevet. I’m eagerly waiting for the upcoming Brevets hope to meet you guys, until then stay home stay safe. ❤️
