🧶Last Thursday, WEAVE volunteers and interns attended the backstrap loom weaving class offered by our Thai Tribal Crafts Fair Trade #FairTrade colleagues! It was a very enriching and fun experience for all of us, where we were able to appreciate the skill of the artisans who make beautiful patterns on these looms💪🏼 🔍TTC offers different experiences to bring people closer to the traditions of the ethnic groups of the area, among which is the Traditional Weaving Class. One of the mock advocacy activities the students chose to create during the Gunseo Global School Korean high-school visit was a fashion show with WEAVE Fair Trade products and using their original solidarity messages and hashtags. 🌍✨Celebrating over 20 years of partnership! WEAVE Fair Trade has been a proud exhibitor at NESA's annual leadership conference in Bangkok since '97! As the conference was wrapping up earlier this month in Bangkok we had the privilege of sitting down with Laura Canellopoulou, the Publications Coordinator of NESA (Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools) to get the inside scoop about our enduring connection with NESA as the exclusive handicraft exhibitor at their conference for educators and administrators.

For this week’s #ArtisanSpotlight, meet Ter Meh! Arriving at the refugee camp in 1988, Ter Meh is now 40 years old, and crossed into the camp by foot in 1988 from the Kayah State in Burma. Her craft is weaving, a skill she learned from her mother at just 10 years old. Together they wove traditional Karenni bags, clothes, and headbands. Working with WEAVE Fair Trade is vital to her because it provides income for her family, enabling her to support her children's education and giving her hope for a brighter future. For Ter Meh, it's not just about weaving; it's about building strong relationships, sharing stories, and finding moments of laughter and release with her fellow women artisans. Being an artisan empowers her to support her family and pass on the Karenni handicraft tradition of weaving to her daughter. In this clip, you can see Ter Meh sitting at her backstrap loom, set up beneath her stilted house. She is fully immersed in weaving a blanket, a labor of love that will take three full days to complete (not counting the 3 days it took to set the thread on the loom). As she weaves, her family members and friends gather alongside her, sharing stories, laughter, and moments of connection.

We put our #weavewomen artisans at the heart of our Fair Trade enterprise because we care and value them and the important work that they do. #RespectWomen #weavefairtrade #weavewomen #womenrefugee #livefair #handmadebyrefugees #DecentWork #positiveimpact Women's Education for Advancement and Empowerment (WEAVE)
