Hakuna Matata
This single-story vacation home is situated in a scenic area surrounded by rice fields and nature. The design emphasizes simplicity while incorporating thoughtful details that cater to relaxation. The planning of the structure leverages level changes in the mass, making it a key feature of the project.
The elevated mound where the home is located was intentionally created to raise the living area above the original ground level. This positioning provides a broader and more expansive view, allowing the homeowners to enjoy the full extent of their property from a higher vantage point. Beneath the mound, a parking area connects seamlessly to the road, offering easy access. Meanwhile, the staircase leading up to the main living area is designed to evoke a sense of ceremony, transitioning into a private and tranquil space.
Upon entering the home, an open interior greets the occupants, seamlessly connecting with nature through carefully considered light and ventilation design. The swimming pool adjacent to the outdoor terrace is strategically positioned to enhance the home’s flow, allowing residents to fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding rice fields and natural landscape. The pool also acts as a unifying element, linking the interior spaces with the exterior environment.
The purposefully constructed mound not only elevates the home’s function and aesthetics but also creates a unique experience for relaxation. This house serves as the perfect retreat, offering peace and serenity while providing an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

This renovation project began with the goal of turning a nondescript shophouse into a café that balances functionality with ambiance. The design embraced the raw charm of the existing structure by preserving traces of the old plaster walls, reflecting simplicity and authenticity. At the same time, new materials were introduced to modernize the space without losing its connection to the original context.
The front façade was redesigned to stand out, featuring sleek steel panels that create clean, modern lines. The "Fernpresso" logo, set against a plain white wall, adds a striking yet understated identity to the building. Inside, the focus was on openness and natural light. A portion of the existing roof tiles was strategically cut to create a gap forming a circular outline. This thoughtful detail allows soft, natural light to filter into the space, creating dynamic shadows that shift throughout the day and add depth and atmosphere.
The mezzanine was completely reimagined with a lightweight steel frame, seamlessly connecting it to the ground floor. This open design creates visual and functional continuity between the two levels while allowing for flexible use—whether as a private nook or a space for small gatherings.
The outdoor courtyard at the front was enhanced with greenery and simple outdoor furniture, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages relaxation and connection to nature. Whether for a quiet coffee break or lively conversations, this area bridges the café’s interior and the surrounding community.
Fernpresso cafe represents a thoughtful transformation, breathing new life into a humble space. The design seamlessly connects the past and the present, offering visitors an inspiring and memorable experience.

Wooden Ville Kids Cafe, located in Chiang Mai, has undergone a transformation from a family-owned warehouse and office space into a playful children's café. In designing the space, we respected the original structure, adapting elements like the warehouse storage areas and mezzanine into functional parts of the café. This café is not just a place for children to have fun, but also a space where parents can relax while keeping a close eye on their children as they play and explore.
What stands out most in Wooden Ville's design is how child-friendly it is. The entire space is thoughtfully crafted with children in mind, particularly through the use of human scale. Every feature—from the play structures to different activity zones—has been carefully positioned to suit the height and movement of children. This fluid layout allows kids to explore and play freely and safely, without restrictions. The use of gentle curves throughout the design creates a soft and welcoming environment, reducing the risk of sharp edges that could pose dangers to children.
Another key feature of Wooden Ville is the use of natural light. Large openings on the eastern side and skylights in key areas, such as the storytelling zone, bring in soft sunlight, creating a bright yet calm atmosphere. The balance of light makes the café ideal for both children’s active play and parents’ peaceful relaxation.
The color palette reflects the natural world, with cheerful and vibrant tones like green, blue, and brown. These colors evoke landscapes of mountains, skies, and earth, enhancing the sense of imagination and adventure. The overall design encourages children to not only enjoy playing but also to immerse themselves in a world that stimulates their creativity.
Wooden Ville is more than just a fun spot for kids—it’s a space that fosters joy and strengthens family bonds, making it a truly special place for everyone.

PAAM VILION: A Pavilion Project Inspiring Connection
• PAAM VILION is an initiative born from the Architects Association of Lanna, inviting four Chiang Mai-based firms to collaborate on four unique pavilions within the city’s Suan Luang Rama IX Park. Envisioned as "home bases," these structures offer a space for the public to engage with architects, fostering dialogue and knowledge sharing.
Inspired by the dearth of public spaces in Chiang Mai, the project aimed to create an environment that not only provided respite but also promoted a deeper connection between people and nature. By integrating architecture seamlessly into the park's landscape, the pavilions aimed to inspire a renewed appreciation for green spaces.
• Constructing in an active public park presented significant challenges. Careful planning was essential to minimize disruptions to park visitors. Additionally, transporting large-scale materials to the site required meticulous logistics.
Design-wise, the goal was to create versatile structures that could inspire contemporary architecture without being bound by traditional forms or materials. The design features four concrete walls that can be arranged to create various configurations, offering a flexible and inviting space. The addition of horizontal aluminum louvers provides shade while maintaining visual connections to the surrounding park. The subtle integration of a gable roof outline pays homage to regional architectural traditions.
• To streamline construction and minimize environmental impact, the primary structure of the pavilions was prefabricated off-site and assembled on-site. Durable and weather-resistant materials were carefully selected. The floating concrete benches and the clean lines of the white aluminum frame contribute to a modern aesthetic, while the overall design emphasizes the importance of space and form in creating a meaningful architectural experience.
• The architects hope that these pavilions will not only provide a comfortable space for park visitors but also inspire a new appreciation for contemporary architecture. By demonstrating that architecture can be both functional and visually striking, PAAM VILION aims to encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of the built environment.
