Open 11am-3pm every day selling bun cha, bun bo nam bo, bun chay, custards, coconut slushies and phin coffee. We did so mainly to refresh his visa.
For many years my husband and I used to visit different countries in South East Asia every 3-6 months. Penang and Bali were favourite spots. We always understood how lucky we were to be able to travel so much, but the pandemic has made it feel like a dream. Bun bo nam bo update:
Our grain-fed rump supplier has run out of stock in Thailand! Hopefully, we’ll be able to source some again soon. For today and the next couple of days we will be serving Australian grass-fed tenderloin instead of the rump. If you're a fan of tender beef come and take advantage of the situation! Happy Sunday.

We're finally adding another dish to the menu!
We started Lucky’s back in 2019 because we couldn’t find some of our favourite Vietnamese foods here in Chiang Mai (or didn’t like the versions we found). Restaurants are actually a lot of work so we only sell dishes we are crazy about ourselves and want to share with the world. Lucky’s is like a mix-tape we made featuring all our favourite songs.
We’re going to add another song to the tape today. This dish is one of our all-time favourites. We eat it pretty much every day when we are in Hanoi. It’s a great example of Northern-influenced food. It’s bun bo nam bo!
We based our recipe on our favourite bun bo nam bo restaurant in Hanoi: Bách Phương Bún Bò Nam Bộ.
Why do we love their version of this dish?
They serve a mild sauce. The sauce is a little sweet, a little salty, and a little umami. There’s no acid or heat (these you can add at the table). This is different from a lot of places that serve a fiery, flavourful sauce (which we also love). Loud sauces can dominate a conversation, so you hear less from other ingredients. Bách Phương’s sauce is more of a background note tying everything together. We love tasting coriander and perilla in one mouthful. In the next, it might be peanuts or garlic.
What else do we like?
They include a lot of salad in their bowls, which makes the dish fresh and light compared to more noodle-heavy versions.
They use thicker rice noodles (somewhere between bun cha noodles and bun bo hue noodles), which we think works really well.
Their noodles also have more chew/bounce which adds another textural layer to the dish.
Their sauce includes soy sauce which is a little unusual. We think It rounds out the flavours nicely.
The result is a slurpy, crunchy, herby, umami mouth adventure that is freshened up by lime and really easy to eat.
Also, there’s beef! We use marinated Australian rump steak (GF MB2+). It responds to the marinade really well, is seared quickly, and comes out tender and tasty.
Condiments we provide that can help you customise your bowl are fresh lime (recommended), fresh chilli, and our favourite high-quality soy sauce. Some people might not need to add any seasoning at all, so try the sauce first!

We won't be preparing a lot of portions each day because it's low season, and the dish is new. If you want to come in and try a bowl, DM us on Facebook or Google to reserve a portion beforehand if you can.
