An antique richly gilded and finely carved lacquered teak statue of Nang Silat Siwalee (the Burmese representation of the Hindu Goddess Saraswati). Her headdress and ears are adorned with beautiful faceted white crystals. Nang Silat Siwalee acts as a guardian of Buddhist Scriptures (held in her hand on an offering tray) and a patron of education and the arts. She is propitiated in ceremonies to help memorize incantations and magic spells. She has an affinity with actors, public speakers and musicians. Her emblem is a lotus blossom upon which her mount, the Hamsa bird, stands. Excellent condition except for two missing crystals. A stunning collector’s piece.
