Thank you to Srinakharinwirot University (SWU)'s Faculty of Science for inviting the Baker Tilly consulting team to join a seminar to impart information in Effective Coaching in organisations, which took place on the 30th of June.

Many thanks to Asst.Prof. Natsawan and Asst.Prof. Busabongkot for providing interns from Ratjamangala University of Technology Isan to work at Baker Tilly Thailand for 3-4 months. We do hope those students have gained lots of knowledges and experiences from audit field works to enhance their capabilities in the future.

We now know that being fit and healthy has benefits in the workplace, fitness and wellness habits can increase productivity, focus and mood. As a result, some companies have implemented HR practices to promote physical activity and work-life balance among their employees. An Ivy League Journey We chat to Serene(Grace) from our Baker Tilly Thailand office in Thailand was recently accepted to Cornell University to do her MBA. Cornell University is an Ivy league school in New York rated as one of the top universities in the world.

Asian parents encourage their children to get an MBA as soon as possible after completing their undergraduate degree. If they can afford it they will encourage them to go to major universities offshore, firstly in the belief that the standard is of a much higher quality, and secondly because the market will value the likes of a Harvard degree higher than a local.

In years gone by, most universities would not allow undergraduates to undertake an MBA until they had obtained hands on business experience. MBAs were designed to enhance and refine the skills already learnt in the business world. These days, with young people going straight from an undergrad degree to an MBA tends to deliver a pure academic approach to business. Without prior business experience the students rely only on the messages delivered by their professor and lecturers. To support this observation you should ask the question of how many MBA graduates have joined your business and come up with new (sustainable) ideas on how to improve your business? How many are trained to think outside the box, because this is what is required to be successful in todays’ world. Look at Steve Jobs; Bill gates; Jack Dorsey; etc. The one thing in common was they all dropped out of college.

If we look at history in the 20th century, most of the successful businesses were built by entrepreneurs with very little formal education. Success was a result of hard work, over long hours, and taking risks. They were the entrepreneurs of their day.

Baker Tilly helps MCOT with their valuation and bidding strategy in an auction for radio frequencies

Baker Tilly Corporate Advisory Services (Thailand) was engaged by MCOT Public Company Limited to be the financial advisor to provide advice on the valuation and bidding strategies for all frequencies that MCOT participates in the auction. Yundyong Thantiviramanon, Managing Partner, and Kanittha Rojdenduang, Partner, participated in the auction with MCOT on February 21, 2022 to provide on-site assistance to Associate Professor Kasemsarn Chotchakornpant, MCOT President, Soontareeya Wongsirikul, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and MCOT team. MCOT successfully secured 47 frequencies and continue to maintain its national radio broadcasting network of Thailand.

Thai airways new plan accepted, but nothing changes’​

Why did Thai Airways file for rehabilitation in the Bankruptcy Courts if they weren’t going to take the hard decisions required to fix the airline once and for all? Ultimate ownership remains with the government, which means mum and dad Thai taxes will be used to bail out working capital shortfalls of over THB 50B. Lenders have had loan repayments extended but no real hurt. Existing non-government shareholders can look forward to another 20 years of no return and diminished share values. Operational changes are the same changes trotted out for years, with no results. ​

The impact of COVID-19 has caused many organizations to proactively reimagine its way of working to achieve sustainable organizational success. It is becoming inevitable that organizations will need to assist high performing staff in becoming more agile. Interestingly, skills that are required to perform a job today are predicted to be different from the skills required to perform the same job tomorrow. For this reason, reskilling/upskilling the workforce becomes significant to stimulate the economic recovery from COVID-19.
