On the 13th of april, every year, thailand celebrates songkran, or the thai new year. These festivities are also observed in neighboring countries such as myanmar, laos and cambodia.
Million of people flock to the streets and visit family homes to enjoy the holiday, which include pouring jasmine water on the elders, cleaning buddha statues with scented rose water and the joyous splashing of water on each other.
People believe water is spiritually purifying and cleanses you of past grievances and bad karma.
This year is a special year because most celebrations are done at home to minimize the risk of spreading covid19 virus, but the underlying sentiment remains, and we, at the anonymous house, wish good health, prosperity, good fortune and peace for the year ahead. May it brings happiness to everyone.
