𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧
I am a South Sudanese for liberty
but now I live in the dreary
pitiless street with my torn old dress
All days I roam to and fro in the street hungry
All the thorns and rough land beat upon my bare foot.
And the night always comes in darkness and dread
Oh! why does the wind blow upon me so wild?
Is it because I am nobody's child?

Oh! what shall I do when the night comes down in its terrible darkness all over the town?
I lay down beneath the angry sky in the cold everyday
With hard pavement alone day and night
When my colleagues have Their
Mamas to tuck them up snugly in beds.

I wonder if they are
In their blissful glee
would they pity become
Poor little beggars like me
wandering alone in the merciless street
Naked and shivering and has nothing to eat
For no dear mama has ever smiled on me
why am I objected to this?
Is it because I am nobody's child?

No mama
No papa
No sister
No one around loves me
Even the little dogs run
when I come too near to them
It's horrible to see how everything shrinks from a beggar like me!
Perhaps it's a dream
But sometimes when
I lie gazing up at the dark blue sky
Watching some large bright stars
I fancy the beautiful gates are jarred
And would be availed for me.
