"This experience changed my life." was one of the insights we heard in our final reflection. 53 young adults joined the youth retreat in the Loreto compound this week. The days were filled with listening to God's word and to each other, reflecting on our lives and ourselves and with prayers and silence. And, we learned a lot about ourselves, God's calls in our lives and God's love and forgiveness, which can change our lives when we dare to open our hearts for him. Grateful and with a strong desire for more activities like this retreat, all the young people returned home to their families, ready to celebrate Christmas - the incarnation of God in our hearts.

Yesterday, laughter was audible throughout the whole Loreto compound. We had a funny experiment in the upper primary school—students played teachers, and teachers played students. At the end, Santino, a student, told us: "It was good playing teacher because it enables us to see what we sometimes put our teachers through. I played the role of headteacher, and I can tell that organizing the learners from assembly to checking the dress code is not easy. Sometimes we make unnecessary noise for teachers, hence giving them a hard time.” Mujja, a teacher, added: “Acting the role of learner wasn’t as easy as it seems. You have to follow the rules, behave respectfully and carry out your assigned duties. This sometimes makes learners feel confined. Understanding these learners are growing and would want to try out everything and follow their peers is important. All in all, everything was good, and it felt good being a learner for a day after a long time. It brought back all my primary school memories.".

"I have felt energized, inspired and equipped with new tools and strategies to empower my students," said Chadrack Mapour as he received his certificate last Saturday. During the last five months, teachers from different primary schools from Rumbek Center came every Saturday to Loreto Education Centre to be students themselves. Teaching methodologies, psychology of learning, English, computers and very practical tools such as lesson planning or creating a scheme of work were on the timetable. 19 teachers finished this training on Saturday after receiving their certificates. "We now become better teachers for the future," summarized Abraham Malou, happy and thankful. We say a big thank you to the tutors of the Education Centre and wish all the teachers joy and success in their important work.

A touch of Christmas could be felt in primary school at the beginning of the week, and a lot of excellence and knowledge was palpable, too.
While the little ones demonstrated their creativity and skills by making and showing off their fancy dresses, the older pupils showed what they had learnt over the past year. With self-made paper models, they explained to the excited audience the effects human activities have on the environment, and they explained climate change. The audience could admire models of land formation, such as volcanos, mountains, rivers and lakes and the students explained drainage systems and the variety of animals. In the end, the trophies were awarded, and the young artists and scientists enthusiastically applauded.

Tamaleka and milk are food for our bodies. School with all the subjects like mathematics or English are food for our brains. Holy Communion is food for our faith and our relationship with God, explained Father Alan Neville this morning when we celebrated First Holy Communion in Primary School. 17 students joined the catechesis classes from Sister Priyanka Dungdung during the last months. In the end, she encouraged her students to receive Holy communion as often as possible to strengthen their faith and be witnesses of faith for others.
