My name Nyamal carries my mission.

In the Nuer language of South Sudan, “Nyamal” comes from two words: “Nya,” meaning “daughter,” and “Mal,” meaning “peace.” Together, Nyamal means “daughter of peace” or simply “peace.”

I was given this name as both a blessing and a responsibility – to be a woman who brings peace, healing, and hope to her community. As a former refugee and a member of Fargo Board of Education, I carry the story of displacement, resilience, and community across continents into my life here in North Dakota.

Today, as I run for the North Dakota State Senate, I am bringing that meaning of peace into our public life. For me, peace means safe neighborhoods, strong public schools, affordable healthcare, economic opportunity, and leaders who listen and serve with integrity.

My campaign is rooted in the belief that every family in our state deserves dignity, stability, and a fair chance to thrive. When you support this campaign, you are not just supporting a candidate – you are standing with a vision of peace, justice, and shared prosperity for all.

My name is Nyamal – “daughter of peace” – and I am ready to bring that spirit of peace, courage, and accountability to the North Dakota State Senate.

Micah Mau Makot, professionally known as Singer Mic of the esteemed Coozos Clan, has died. According to family sources, the artist succumbed to medical complications stemming from a severe leg wound infection on Friday.

A founding member of the influential Coozos Clan music group and associate of the True Brotherz collective, Singer Mic was instrumental in shaping South Sudan's urban music scene.

His distinctive smooth vocals and melodic style feature prominently in some of the country's most iconic tracks, including "Binia Juba" and "Biu Lek Ketanga," which played a pivotal role in molding the nation's modern music culture in the early 2000s.

Additionally, he was the maternal uncle to prominent musician Menimen, also of Coozos Clan. The family will announce funeral arrangements in due course.

Family sources say the artist died on Friday following medical complications linked to a severe leg wound infection.

Singer Mic was regarded as one of the pioneers of South Sudan’s urban music scene and a founding member of the influential Coozos Clan music group. He was also associated with the musical collective True Brotherz.

Known for his smooth vocals and melodic style, he featured on some of South Sudan’s most recognized songs, including “Binia Juba” and “Biu Lek Ketanga,” tracks that helped shape the country’s modern music culture in the early 2000s.

He was also the maternal uncle of renowned musician Menimen, another prominent figure from Coozos Clan.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
