The National Ministry of Health, together with dedicated partners, commemorated World Malaria Day with a significant milestone of the launch of the distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) in Gurei, Juba. This initiative marks a crucial step forward in the fight against malaria, aiming to protect every household and save lives across South Sudan.

Speaking during the occasion, Minister of Health Hon. Luke Thompson Thoan Teny highlighted the importance of innovation in health responses, stating, "The national launch of the distribution of LLINs signifies a major leap forward. These nets play a crucial role in reducing transmission rates and protecting our communities.

Meanwhile, the Hon. Undersecretary Dr. Oromo Francis Seriano emphasized that the gathering to observe World Malaria Day is a pivotal occasion 𝐌𝐒𝐧𝐒𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 π‡πžπšπ₯𝐭𝐑 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫π₯𝐝 𝐌𝐚π₯𝐚𝐫𝐒𝐚 πƒπšπ².

For over 12 years, Ding Mading has gone door to door in his community to distribute life-changing medicines, protecting his neighbors from river blindness (RiverBlindness) and lymphatic filariasis (LF).

His motivation? A deep love for his community and the belief that no one should suffer from preventable diseases. Community leaders like Ding are making a future without NTDs possible.

Ways to avoid heatwaves wherever you're!

1. Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
2. Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty, and avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.
3. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fabric.
4. Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply it regularly.
5. Take frequent cool showers or baths, or use a fan or air conditioning to cool down.
6. Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors or family members to ensure they are staying cool and hydrated.
7. Avoid strenuous activities or exercising outdoors during peak heat hours.
8. Seek shade or air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
9. Plan outdoor activities for early morning or late evening when it's cooler.
10. Be aware of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and seek medical attention if necessary.
