Armed Gangs Target Women and Livestock in Aweil South County HQs
A pregnant woman, Nyiru Ayiei Makuachjok, is in critical condition after being attacked by a gang of thieves in Malek Alel at around 2:00 a.m. last night.
In the latest incident, the gang assaulted her while she attempted to rescue her goats, kicking her in the stomach despite her pregnancy. All her money was stolen, leaving her hospitalized as doctors assess the condition of her unborn child.
Residents of Malek Alel say the town has been plagued by a rising wave of gang attacks, with thieves using motorbikes to raid homes, loot property, and steal goats at gunpoint or knifepoint.
“This violence against innocent women is unacceptable. Malek Alel is small, and these thugs will soon be brought to justice,”
Malong Aluong, the husband of the victim, warned.
This is the second gang attack reported in the county headquarters this month, raising concerns over escalating insecurity.
Community members are calling for urgent security intervention and have appealed for prayers for Nyiru Ayiei’s quick recovery.
The Kiel family of justice, including Kur Lual Kur, the defense lawyer of Dr. Riek Machar, has disowned Molana Kur Lual, accusing him of betraying the community.

The prosecution has raised an objection regarding two defense lawyers in Dr. Riek Machar's case, claiming that Deng John Deng and Warnyang Kiir Warnyang are operating without valid licenses.
They argue that the expired licenses render the lawyers' participation in the trial illegal, potentially compromising the integrity of the defense team.
The prosecution contends that allowing these attorneys to continue would undermine the legitimacy of the proceedings.
As a result, the court is currently deliberating on whether to permit Deng and Warnyang to remain part of Machar's legal representation. The outcome of this ruling could significantly impact the defense strategy in the ongoing trial.
