South Sudan Patriotic Movement, under the Leadership of Hussein Abdelbagi, Affirms the Legitimacy of Its Decisions and Rejects Parallel Tracks and Any Unauthorized Representation

The South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM) has officially and conclusively withdrawn confidence from its former Chairperson, Dr. Costello Garing Ring Lual, affirming that the decision was duly issued by the National Leadership Council (NLC) in exercise of its constitutional mandate. The Movement underscores that this decision is final, binding, and not subject to challenge, circumvention, or nullification through any political or media means whatsoever.

In a press statement released today, the Movement’s Media Office clarified that the National Leadership Council convened its Extraordinary Session No. (002/2024) on 23 November 2024 at its headquarters, during which it adopted “decisive and binding resolutions” that unequivocally reflect the will of the Movement’s legitimate institutions. These resolutions were taken in strict accordance with Article 27(2) (b, c) of the SSPM Constitution of 2022.

The statement further denounced attempts at deception and impersonation undertaken by the former Chairperson, including the recruitment of individuals and groups with no organizational affiliation to the Movement and presenting them falsely as its members. The Movement categorically affirmed that Mr. David Lawrence Lual is not a member of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement and has never been endorsed through any official organizational channel. Accordingly, any statements or claims made by him in the name of the Movement are null, void, and devoid of any legal or political standing.

SSPM emphasized that any statements, positions, or representations issued by unauthorized individuals or entities do not, under any circumstances, represent the Movement and shall carry no political or legal validity.

President Kiir tells MPs not to go for recess (Holidays)

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the Members of Parliament (CES) not to rest but to continue dealing with the laws.

Kiir made the remark on Monday during a meeting with Jemme Nunu Kumba, the Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), and the Council of States Deputy Speaker.

The lawmakers were supposed to break for recess and return after four months; however, the President directed them to go for Christmas and come back to start their jobs.

Madut Madut Yel Calls on SPLM to Allow President Kiir to Vote in Aweil

Politician Madut Madut Yel, also known as Abuk Abuk, has requested the SPLM leadership to allow Salva Kiir Mayardit to cast his vote in Aweil during the upcoming general election.

He appealed to His Excellency the Governor and Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny to permit President Salva Kiir Mayardit to vote in Aweil in the 2026 general election, noting that Aweil is a stronghold of the SPLM.

Hon. Madut also urged the people of Aweil to respect former Governor Simon Ober Mawut and refrain from abusing him. He further thanked the people of the Lou community, saying they have played their part.

🚨BREAKING: Greater Aweil Youth Chairperson in WBGs arrested in Aweil

Malek Chol Kuoc Malek, the Chairperson of the Greater Aweil Youth Association in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, has been detained by security organs in Aweil Town.

Malek announced his arrest in a post on Facebook, saying he was detained while attending a celebration to welcome the newly appointed governor.

“I am Malek Chol Kuoc Malek, Chairperson of the Greater Aweil Youth Association in Western Bahr el Ghazal State. I am currently being held at the National Security office in Aweil Town,” he said.

The reason for his arrest has not yet been explained by the authorities.

Malek had traveled from Wau to Aweil to take part in the welcoming ceremony for the new governor before his arrest.
