The Chief's Diary: Literally Shaping a Generation of Leaders- From School Policy to the University Lecture Room

Today was surreal.

I've been teaching at the university now for about 6 years and today in my class were students who took high school transition exams shaped by my policies as Minister of Education.

It was 2020 at the peak of COVID-19. I remember bringing a decision to cabinet to allow students to go back to school and take exams in 2020. The world was under lockdown and parents were bashing me for making a decision they thought would put their children at risk. I decided that the data said otherwise and together with the Ministry of Health, we decided to a motion. President Bio and the government approved. We supported learners with extra support, more learning materials and more.

We reopened school for students in the final year of high school and scheduled their transition exams (some other ECOWAS countries didn't schedule WASSCE for another year).

Today, in my class for 5th year Honors 2 engineering students were learners who benefitted from that policy decision. And in my class, they are now learning about innovation and entrepreneurship- problem solving skills that will literally shape their lives.

For me, this is what drives me. Impact. Shaping the lives of Sierra Leoneans directly through policy and through action.

SLPP WE CAN SOLVE OUR ISSUES AMICABLY.

Radical Inclusion and Ebema Movement: A Family United for Progress

The Radical Inclusion Movement and the Ebema Movement continue to grow as powerful forces rooted in unity, respect, and collective progress. More than just groups or organizations, they see themselves as a family—a community of people who believe that every voice matters and every citizen deserves a place in national development.

Together, these movements promote the idea that Sierra Leone People’s Party becomes stronger when no one is left behind. Their shared focus on education, youth empowerment, and community involvement reflects a deep commitment to building a fair and inclusive society. By supporting one another, uplifting their communities, and encouraging active participation in national conversations, they hope to inspire positive change across the country.

As 2028 approaches, members of both movements continue to emphasize togetherness, discipline, and civic responsibility. Their goal is to motivate citizens to stay engaged, informed, and united in shaping the future of Sierra Leone. For them, progress comes from collaboration—working hand in hand as one family committed to national growth and long-term development.

We are not in confusion as we are one country one people.

I am extraordinarily honored to join the official delegation of Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh to Madrid, Spain, serving in my role as a Peace Ambassador appointed by His Excellency the President, Retired Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

This invitation is a testament to our government's commitment to the Radical Inclusion policy; the belief that every voice is essential in shaping our nation's future.

Our delegation is here to witness the Commencement Ceremony of the Master's Programme on Sustainable Cities, and to engage with the Norman Foster Institute’s dialogues on urban futures. I am here in Spain with a clear purpose: to explore how the design of our city and provincial spaces can be a foundation for lasting peace and social unity in our dearest Mama Salone.

As your Peace Ambassador, I assure this nation that my office, in collaboration with all concerned stakeholders, will promote peaceful activities from Central Freetown to the bays, and across all provincial cities, towns, and villages.

I am grateful to President Bio for his trust and to the Chief Minister for actualizing this vision. I am committed to learning how our urban infrastructure can foster peace, and I pledge to bring these insights home to serve our beloved Sierra Leone. LAJ wrote

WHY WE AS STUDENTS CHOOSE RADICAL INCLUSION MOVEMENT

We Believe in the Radical Inclusion Movement: A United Voice of Students Across Sierra Leone

In today’s rapidly changing world, the path to national development begins with one powerful principle: inclusion. As students of this nation, we understand that sustainable progress can only happen when every voice is heard, every talent is recognized, and every young person regardless of background, identity, or circumstance is given the opportunity to contribute.

This is why we stand firmly behind the Radical Inclusion Movement.

WHY RADICAL INCLUSION MATTERS

Radical Inclusion is more than an idea; it is a commitment to ensuring that education, opportunities, and national participation remain open to all. It challenges old systems that create barriers and calls for a future where:

Every student feels valued

Every institution encourages equal participation

Every young leader has the space to contribute to national growth

As students, we see firsthand the impact of exclusion whether social, academic, or economic. We also see the amazing potential that emerges when people are included, supported, and empowered.

A UNITED FRONT ACROSS ALL UNIVERSITIES

Recognizing our shared responsibility, students from universities across the country have come together in solidarity. Our collective goal is simple yet powerful: to amplify the message of Radical Inclusion and help drive its agenda forward.

BY JOINING FORCES, WE AIM TO:

Educate our peers about the importance of inclusive educational systems

Advocate for policies that promote fairness and equal access

Support one another in building a nation where no student is left behind.

This movement is not limited to campuses it is a national call for positive change driven by young minds who believe in a better future.

OUR ROLE AS STUDENTS

Students are the heartbeat of social progress. When we unite around meaningful causes, we create movements that shape the direction of the country. The Radical Inclusion Movement gives us the platform to:

Promote awareness

Encourage dialogue

Inspire collective action

By embracing Radical Inclusion, we are choosing a future where diversity is celebrated, not feared; where education opens doors, not divides; and where every student’s potential is nurtured.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our commitment doesn’t end here. As advocates, learners, and future leaders, we’re ready to continue pushing the agenda of Radical Inclusion with passion and purpose. Together, we can build an educational environment and a nation where everyone can thrive.
