Leone stars of Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 came in front after
A 66th-minute strike from Georgian-based central defender Abdul Jarju Kabia secured a 1-0 victory for Sierra Leone's Leone Stars over neighboring Liberia in an international friendly match at the Southern Arena in Bo City.
The match marked the return of the Leone Stars to home soil for an international fixture after more than five years, following their 0-0 draw against Nigeria in November 2020.
The victory also saw the return of coach John Keister to the national team setup as caretaker coach, while it marked the first official game in charge for Liberia's head coach, Mohamed Erradi.
History was made as the Southern Arena became the first venue outside Freetown, and the first stadium other than the Siaka Stevens Stadium, to host a FIFA-sanctioned international match involving Sierra Leone's senior men's national team.
The second leg of the friendly will be played on Tuesday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia.
