Traditional overnight adventure with Frilufsare (youth outdoor group). While the kids slept in the tent, I decided to give shelter a chance. No regrets 😊

I have tried to carve Indigo - the whimsical young elf from book "Journey".
This project was definitely a new challenge. I've mostly carved some bearded fellows, but never a child's face. Even in a cartoon style, it was very hard to make him look young.
Painting is decisive here. I'll show you the painting process and the final result once I find time to edit the video 😊

Now that the Tuumailija has safely reached its new home in Finland, I can finally show him to you.
is an incredible artist who has created a whole series of paintings around this character, and you should definitely check them out.
Carving this little gnome was both exciting and challenging. I have carved gnomes before, sure… but. This was not just any character, it was his character. Someone else's vision, someone else's style. I kept asking myself: am I getting the shapes right? The colors? Can I turn a 2D painting into a 3D wooden figure and keep a style? I still don't know if his hat is correct.. 😊
But when I saw the unboxing video… that moment made it all worth it.
I came out of this with more experience, more confidence, and even a new online friend in this amazing creative community.
